What, does it discriminate against Belgians?

Back to Turnus: you say he is pitiable, but that is not what I read. What am I to think when even Berlioz thinks Aeneas was a jerk in the end?

EDIT: I thought Oedipus was a demigod?

It begins with a contest to see who can come up with the most derogatory term for Belgians.

Aeneas was a jerk in the end. That does not necessitate that Turnus was portrayed as a good guy. Please, cite texts.

Oh, I do.

I thought it was actually funny, though. Must be because they laughed with practically everybody in their sketches.

Does anyone have any particular favourite mythological monster? I think mine would be dragons. Very versatile creatures. Destructive too. Great to draw.

Great to draw? give me a break, those guys are NOT easy to draw at all...it takes AGES to do the scales...(doremifasolatida! ad infinitum...)

I was right! Wow, people really are mean to Belgians...

I didn't really think you would mind it, just sorta playing the 'excessively scrupulous' part. The memory of the skit was jarred by DB's phrase 'pink and puffy'; remember that part?

And yes, destruction is great. Personally, my favourite is probably Centaur, though Dragon is a close second.

And then of course, famous Goatstag.

Why would I care? I'm not Belgian ...
(when you said Jigglypuff, I was thinking Smashbrothers!)

I hate Goatstags...of all the losery creatures invented....what idiots.

Centaurs? Nah...though I don't mind them...I'd probably have to say dragons are the best. Or unicorns.

*whap*

"I didn't really think you'd mind", clearly, is referring to Earniel, as I gave no indication whatsoever that Mme. Berlioz would mind. Silly foo'.

When I said Jigglypuff, I was thinking Pokemon. Gotta catch 'em all, and all that...Somehow, DB's "My Aeneid's a Fitzgerald!" struck as though it were something along those lines.

*whap*
*whap*

How DURST thou call Aristotle an idiot! Harrumph! The Philosopher answers to no president devoid of any real power!

Unicorns are cool too. But I still say Centaurs.

"Then to his glance appeared the accurst swordbelt surmounting Turnus' shoulder, shining with its familiar studs - the strap Young Pallas wore when Turnus wounded him and left him dead upon the field; now Turnus bore that enemy token on his shoulder - enemy still. For when the sight came home to him, Aeneas raged at the relic of his anguish worn by this man as trophy. Blazing up and terrible in his anger, he called out: 'You in your plunder, torn from one of mine, shall I be robbed of you? This wound will come from Pallas: Pallas makes this offering, and from your criminal blood exacts his due.' He sank his blade in fury in Turnus' chest..."

that's where he becomes furor...

Indeed. But I see no halo indications in regards to the area over Turnus' head.

By the way, cool side note; when it says:

The verb there in the Latin is condit, which means "founded".

yeah, i never said the "halo" thing. i personally find Turnus' death justified, and exclaimed, "go Aeneis!", or some similar phrase in my head, when i read it. much as i also mourned after the death of Priam...powerful verses, those were.

I know. My bone is with Hectorius.

Turnus' death may be justified, but I think it was wrong.

I know, Priam's death can move one to tears.

Now wait a minute, I never said I was rooting for Turnus. It's because I'm not rooting for him that I object to the halo-projection Dickenson put over him. I was always rooting for Aeneas, but I'm just annoyed that he has to be the bad guy at the end...

BTW, if you guys ever have the itch to: listen to Berlioz' opera Les Troyen...it ends at book four (or five), but in almost every way it is an accurate Virgil story. Virgil was one of Berlioz' literary loves, he would scream at desecration if he saw it being done to the great classics that he loved...

I know, Burly, I was saying that there was no halo in the general vicinity of Turnus' as presented, contrary to your complaints, which I now gather are directed at your translation? Could you cite some text from your Dickenson, at the end, which leads you to think there is canonization of Turnus? I just have never seen it in any edition, and in order for me to have some idea of what is being discussed, I think I'll have to see text which shows that.

I'll bring it tomorrow (I'm on campus etc...)

Meanwhile, Burly appears nowhere in the phonetic explanation of Berlioz's name. It is, BARELY-OSZ...you're thinking with German phonetics, while Berlioz is FRENCH. We don't call Bizet Bitz-ey, do we? We don't say for Boulez-Bow-letz, do we?...so cut the hurly burly

anyways, i don't think Aeneis was a jerk at all...if so, than so was Achilles. that was the way of the world back then. it was normal!
