Im really not sure what forum this belongs in so here goes:
What the heck is an olog-hai and a haradrim???

'Olog-hai' is the Black Speech, or the tongue of Mordor. It means 'troll-people'. The Olog-hai are, if memory serves, a kind of 'super-troll' that was bred by Sauron toward the end of the Third Age; quicker and cunning and able to withstand the Sun, I believe. I think the singular would probably be Olog.

Haradrim is Sindarin (Elvish) for 'People of Harad'. The Haradrim are a race of Men who dwell in the lands of the South; they are also called Southrons, I think.

thanks so much. i went to barrow downs and it said i was a friendly olog-hai. spoky. anywho is a crying orc a bad thing???

ummm i was at barrow downs and I got a thing that said Iw as like a crying orc so I dunno if that was any diffrent from a regular orc(?)

The term Uruk-Hai has been discussed in a few threads, and there is a current one in the LotR books forum (actually it is the "Are they human" thread, originally started about hobbits, but has gone off topic, but there are others devoted solely to the Uruks/ orcs) . Just do a search of the term. Another good resource is the book itself.

I'm moving this to the books forum, but let's keep the topic what are Olog-hai and Haradrim, since the Uruk ones already exist.

Olog-hai is also a controversy-as there appear to be sun resistant trolls mentioned in the subduing of Hurin during the Fifth Battle.

The Olog-hai were a race of half orcs, half trolls (as far as I can tell) which featured in the battle of the Morannon. I don't know what the word 'hai' actually means, but it is used in conjunction with all sorts of breeds, particularly half-breeds, of orcs.

The Haradrim were a race of peoples from the far east (Harad), they were (I think) also known as easterlings and were a very warlike people who served Sauron.

Khand is east south to Mordor, right? Because Harad is very close to Gondor. And Umbar is... West south to Harad, no? I'm not sure.

Umbar is a pennisula to the South. It sticks out from the coast bounding the Bay of Belfalas on the Southeast. It was a Gondorian stronghold for many years and helped the Kings dominate Harad. It was lost during the kin-strife, recaptured in the 1800s (1810 I believe) and then lost in the great invasions of the Wainriders. It became a stronghold of black numenorians.
