Plastic Surgery

What do you guys think about it? Is it worth the money & risk? What about that 60 - somehting woman who spent milions of dollars to make herself look 40-something? Whatever hapened to gracefully aging?

I am against people getting plastic surgery unless it is to correct a severe malformation or to reconstruct after an accident or scarring illness (for instance, mastectomy). I think people should focus more on character than on looks. But people can do whatever they want with their own bodies, they just need to be aware of the fact that there are a lot of underskilled doctors who can really mess them up.
In the case of celebrities, I have rarely seen a case where plastic surgery has improved their looks. It usually makes them look odd, whereas before the surgery they looked fine.
One of the best charitable organizations I've heard about is one where doctors travel the world performing reconstructive surgery on people in third world countries. The one I specifically remember is one where they help women in I believe the Middle East who have been burned by vindictive men throwing acid on their faces (usually to get back at the woman's father for something or something like that). It was such a sad story and the doctors were able to help them get a new face. There's another that reconstructs third world children with cleft palates.

I can't understand it at all. It's just how you look...Not who you are, or how you feel. I like my aging look, it's beautiful! It's me!

Some people who get plastic surgery are insecure about their looks.. I suppose they just want to look nice. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look nice, as long as you don't seriously disrupt your life and/or budget to do it.

That's a bit of an extreme example, no?

Michael Jackson's nose (and whole face for that matter) = scary.

I agree with azalea. People look worse in my opinion after plastic sugery. Thier skin is tight and looks fake. I wouldn't get it done. I would never have an operation unless I really needed it. Plus I would rather spend my money on something else. Michael Jackson would look so much better if he never had plastic sugery.

I believe people can do what they want to give themselves more beauty, but personally I think its rediculous. It seems to me that many people either don't look noticeably different or they look fake.
I saw on the news the other night about a new treatment for cheek lifts, on the face of course . They extracted fat from the thighs and inserted it into the cheeks among other things. I spent the next five minutes laughing at the rediculousness of it all.

i dont see the problem with it at all as long as it doesnt go too far.

So you dont agree with removing something like a wart or mole which is not dangerous at all, you just want it removed because it looks yucky?!

Your flesh is just as much of you as your consciousness. Why do so many people ASSUME face lift. there are many people with abnormalities. or just something they wish to chance. Go for it.

Well, removing a mole is one thing, but going through surgery to have bags sewn into your breasts is just bizarre. I always imagine what people are going to think a thousand years from now when they have archeological digs in our cemetaries and find nothing of the human remains but two little silicon sacks. Weird.

People can do whatever they want to their bodies.

Me? I don't feel the need to change anything by means of plastic surgery. I'm not the breast implants kind of guy.
