RE: Spiderman
I had low expectations, too, and was disappointed w/ some of the changes, but I thought technically they did a good job, and as an action flick I found it thoroughly enjoyable. My point in bringing it up was that BECAUSE of the fact that it was an action/ scifi type movie, it was sure not to win or be nominated for much of anything. As if a performance worthy of a best acting nom couldn't possibly come from an action film. (NOT that Spiderman had such outstanding acting. But I did love JJJ ).
Anyway, back to griping about TTT not winning best pic... |

Was Chicago really the BEST movie of the year? Was there no better one?

I personally didn't see what was so great about Chicago. So I ask you: What was so great about Chicago?

yeah I do. There are many musicals that I like. Except my type of movies are action/adventure/fantasy. I liked Chicago and Moulin Rouge...but not enough for best picture at the academy awards.

Though I think FOTR and TTT were the best films of 2001 and 2002, respectively, I don't regard either of them as complete works, and I think it's better to reward the next-most-deserving picture for the time being.
Last year, it was Moulin Rouge! This year, it was Minority Report but since it wasn't nominated, either Chicago or The Pianist would have been fine by me. Even with the whole anti-fantasy stigma that's been prevalent among Academy voters, pundits are already marking ROTK the clear and undisputed frontrunner. However, we don't know what is still to come in the increasingly November/December-heavy release schedule for movies vying for awards.

But I still think that RotK will win best pic. since it is the last of the movie trilogy. I don't know though. There are a lot of movies that will be a tough competition for lotr. hopefully...they will all turn out bad.. jk
