Karate is a linear arts that emphasizes power (japan)

Tae kwon do emphasizes kicks Korean

Jujitsu a no holds barred fighting style. more concerned with if it works use it. not really into the philosophy.

judo a watered down version of the above more for sport .

kung fu various chinese styles including, wu shu, tai chi, shaolin, wing chun etc. this styles quite divergent and hard to describe simply. think jacky chan, jet li, and crouching tiger, hidden dragon and you'll get a rough idea of kung fu

Ok for the first you watch the Billy Jack movies. Bon Soo Han did the actual fighting. Shaolin is either Northern (hand movements) or Southern (foot techniques) based upon the size of the people in those regions. The Chinese govn't. only fairly recently has acknowledged and permitted monks to train at the original monestary. Yes I know all about the trips in previous years.
Authentic Ninjitsu, I hesitate to tell you because you don't really want to know. The Japanese government has examined the scrolls in possession of Dr. Matsaaki Hatsumi of the Togakure Ryu and found those to be authentic and dating back 900 years. In Japan ALL martial arts (to be taught) must be sanctioned and licensed by the government. Togakure Ryu is the ONLY style of Ninjitsu so authorized.

FYI I have been a student of the martial arts for over forty years.
Rankings attained in Ninjitsu and Jiujitsu. Teaching license in
Jiujitsu, Sandan.

Bong So Han is a HAPKIDO man not Hwarang do.

As far as my comments on Shaolin and Ninjitsu it that those names have been OVERLY used by bogus martial artist to to suck in the guillable.

Its seems everybody who studied kung fu their teacher as taught by some shaolin master. And Ninja schools opened everywhere after those corny Sho Kushugi movies.

there are those that practice it as an art and it is just like any other martial art. .... then there are those that are flat off the wall and just plain foolish. talking about magic, levitation, being unpeneratable and other such mystic type hollabaloo. so some is real some is fake. depends who your instructor is i guess.
It's the latter that i'm truly leary of. Like people who buy books like " Ninja Magic"

And what do you mean by this statement ? :

Apology to students of Supreme Grand Master Dr. Joo Bang Lee's art (deceased) , my brain confused two excellent exponents. Yong Sul Choi's (current S.G.M.) art is also Korean and Grand Master Bong Soo Han , of Hapkido, is more well known in the circles I have traveled. His art is also better known in general. That is not to take away from anyone's chosen art. There are many roads to the top of the mountain.

It is wise to remember what Mork of Ork said: "reality what a concept", when philosophy is held as dogma.

When I start college in the fall I think I will try to take a judo class. I was a wrester in high school, and I am told that many wrestling throws are similar to judo. In fact, many good wrestlers I've talked to from other schools are also good at judo. I'm quite excited.

You're not allowed to say it's not about fighting? What is the reason or is it a dictate from the unenlightened.
Huh? We aren't allowed to CALL it fighting, because it isn't, really. We aren't supposed to pick, start, provoke fights. It's in our kind of 'code of honor'. The stuff we learn is mostly how to get out of bad situations without causing permanent harm to our attacker. But, the higher your level, the more intense the training, and you do learn things that could seriously injure, or even kill (in some cases) people, but those are used as a last resort, in life or death situations after all else has failed.

Ahh, ok, now I understand. It's the First Principle I was taught and teach, Avoid!
Thanks for the clarification.

Having reached the end of the universe and still holding on to my towel. I vote to seal this thread.
We can meet again at the Restaurant at the end when the end once again comes around.
