Not my consensus! My consensus is that the mood made it worth the time.

What I mean is, they weren't from that time. They (the adults) never grew up talking in that manner. It was all fake.

Sure, pro actors could pull it off pretty easily, but these weren't pro actors. I think it is reasonable to expect people to sound "weird" and "off" and "stilted" in that situation. It's like if you have to suddenly go off to a village and adopt Quaker English. Would it sound natural? I doubt it.

Anyway, it's been a long time since I saw Village--I could be wrong on a couple things...

Perhaps, Rev., but there are a few things to take into consideration:

A) These people seemed to be, as a whole, relatively well-informed people. It wouldn't have been difficult for them to do a little research on QE to get it right.

B) They had apparently been speaking in this way for many years. One would think that, even if it didn't sound quite correct, they would have settled into their own, more natural-sounding dialect of QE by then.

Bah. I'd have to watch it again to refresh my memory, and I'm not going to.

Well, Willie Hurt and maybe Brendan Fraiser perhaps aren't the best of actors. I think Joaquin Pheonix is a pretty good one. Brice Dallas Howard did a great job, seeing (get it? 'seeing' ) as she's not blind, and it was her first movie, wasn't it? Sigourney Weaver is a pretty good actress IMO.
But at any rate, they're all 'professional actors'.

Their characters aren't. That was my point. IIRC, Hurt was a school teacher. Not sure about the rest.

Ah!! I get it now. Okay; yes, you're right: their characters weren't good actors at all.
You know, I wonder if it is more difficult to act bad acting well, as it were, or to simply act well. ...The things my brain comes up with...

I have to respect the well-done criticsim of The Rev, as well as form everyone else...definitely some things well pointed-out.

The Sixth Sense I "watched" this movie when I was 13 or 14. I was so freaked out I kept my eyes closed nearly the whole time. Did I "get" the plot twist at the end? No! Not until way later. Very awesome movie.

Unbreakable This film has been unjustly criticised, IMO. Samuel l Jackson was awesome in it, as was Robin W. Penn. Bruce Willis was a tad off...but still in good mode. The twist here made a big impression on me, since I had not yet watched The Sixth Sense again. Maybe that's why I liked/like it so much. Anyways, it's defnitely the movie of Shayamalan's that I've watched the most.

Signs My personal favorite, for all the actors, the great script overall. In the theater the alien really made me jump when it came onscreen onscreen inside of the movie. But when it really appeared? Nah.

The Village. I liked it, a lot. But despite the ending which caught me by surprise, I was a bit detached from keeping up with the story.

I do plan on seeing Night's next film of course...

EDIT: a word about the "acting" in The Village. It did occur to me during the movie that the accents of these people just weren't right. I've lived a lot around Amish and Menonites, and even though those accents are going to be different from what they use to be, I knew that the people of the village should have a certain way of saying things, ya know?

hmmm...let's see....

The Sixth Sense
I really did like this movie alot. it was unpredictable for me and basically a thriller. but...liek most thrillers, the second time I saw it, I wasn't as impressed. So that kinda sucked

Unbreakable
I only saw this once and (unfortunately) I went in with expectations that it would be just like the Sixth Sense which of course it wasn't. I didn't think it was a great movie all in all.

Signs
OMG....I LOVED THIS! truely! I was scared so much throughout the whole thing! I was even scared the second and third time I watched it on DVD. It totally freaked me out b/c it was something that seemed WAY more plausible than the events that happened in the Ring (which, if I remember correctly, was released shortly after or around the same time.)

The Village
This was pretty good even the second time around. The first time I saw it I had morning sickness really bad and I wasn't "that" into it but..I guess it was more disturbing than scary really. The fact that adults would actually go to those lengths to avoid "the pains of thier past" was disturbing to me.

Lady in the Water
I want to see this! that is all I have to say!

Saw a sneak-peek advertisement for the soundtrack.. I love the music in Shyamalan's films. I'm so looking forward to LitW.
