Can't we all just say we are all the same minus the French? I will go for that one

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

Ironically I was actually thinking of that headline in Le Monde the day after 9/11: "We are all Americans now". I like France, and I wish they were on our side, but it's their mistake.

Just as well there aren't any French mooters

I've been thinking about that too. How quickly people can go from being pro-american to anti-american.

One day or month does not make a pro-American. The French have always had a conscending attitude toward us. They have never been "pro-American" .

Oh - you guys are just a bunch of Eurowhiners.

As for they're not being any french on entmoot. I have tried to talk to french people before. I have gone on french messageboards (without posting). They are the only group of people where I see "will talk to anyone but an american". This was BEFORE Iraq or even 9/11. I know there are others who have no desire to talk to americans - but with french - I saw it repeatedly. In ICQ - I went into a french and international chats and people contacted me - when they asked me where I was from and told them - they either ignored me - or said "I"m not talking to a damn American". Again this was before 9/11. I don't think the French have ever been pro-American except when it benefits them - like their liberation for Germany.

Yes we are. If france and germany would just listen to us - everything would be fine. We could have had the whole thing with iraq fixed along time ago. The country would have been cleaned up of all the weaponry lying around and would be further along on it's way to a democracy.

We're the ones who take action - instead of waiting for situtations to get so bad that they end up being a far greater mess. Too bad we didn't take care of things before 9/11. We should have turned our attention from the Soviet Union after their downfall - to the Middle East.

Oh yeah, I forgot. You always know what's right, and everybody else is wrong. I admire your modesty.

Well as long you don't forget it anymore - everything will be fine.

well i wouldnt worry so much about Turkey. Their secular government does NOT take kindly to this kind of fanatical terrorism in the name of religion. you can bet that over the next few weeks a good number of heads will get smashed in. they are hopping mad about this and they will make John Ashcroft look like Woody Guthrie when its all said and done.

There are troops still in Afganistan - but I don't think there are as many as before and I don't think there are under NATO. I was also wondering if NATO should be developing anti-terrorist units.

There are currently 5,500 troops in the International Security and Assistance Force in Kabul, 2,000 of which are Canadians.

NATO took control of ISAF last spring- the number hasn't changed much, but it does need to be drastically increased. Canada is going to draw down its deployment in Bosnia, and (maybe) make those troops available.

There are also about 10,000 Americans, the highest number so far, but they are under a separate command, and are deployed outside the cities in hunting down Taliban forces.

These events are terrible though
Of course terriorist disginust between who they attack thats the whole point. They are targeting a particular group for a impact!

Dont think that a terririst is a mindless killer because they are not they are more calculating and allmost allways have a motive for a particular target.

A war on terrorism cannot ever work because terrorism is easy and doesnt need massive support to work having a war against it just makes more and unfortintally we have been drawn into it now
