Enjoy yourselves my little Orcs. The fun will be ending soon.

Shortly I will post a new sticky. Enjoy your fighting while you can, because it is about to come to an abrupt end.

Hey - the book fans are the elves. It's the movie fans who are the orcs.

Anyway - who is fighting right now. The orcs are holed up in Moria.

Wow. I had no idea all this was happening. The fighting... the anger... I was just hanging out in the peaceful Writer's Workshop and RPG forums.

All I'm going to add is whenever you're arguing, remember that the person who you disagree with did not set out to personally ruin your day.

Feh. Ruin your /day/ olsonm? Oh, no. Far from it- when I dissagree with someone I immediately set about systematically dismantling their life. ]:-)

I must respectfully offer an opinion, SGH, that you might be just slightly overreacting?

IMHO, what has been going on here for the next few days has been much less 'fighting' than it has been 'passionate arguing', and from all I have seen almost everybody involved is behaving with rather good humor about the whole thing.

I, among the handfull of most hardcore purists, have never had a problem with BB and the other adaptationists, even though I do wholly dissagree with them. The fact that I feel strongly one way, and they feel the opposite, doesn't make us mortal enemies- in fact I would venture to say that most of the posts lately have been only half-serious. A feud carried on from force of habit- not a hatred like that between elves and orcs, more like the friction between elves and dwarves. Or even moreso, the relationship between Farmer Giles and the Miller, in that other minor work of Tolkien's. :P

I think my opinion is bore out by the fact that many of the people in this debate have come down equally hard on opposite sides of other (even more heated) debates, and yet still manage to get along fine. I have not seen a single post that I would seriously consider a flame (although I have seen some that have been in bad taste ), and even some of the most vehement rhetoric (such as my own ];-) ) is meant to be taken with grain of salt.

There are a few people who seem to think this is actually a violent (albiet verbal) conflict, but those mostly seem to be restricted to people who rarely drop in, and/or somehow miss the underlying current of amicable dissention.

Now of course, being the naiave and innocent newcomer to the wiles and intrigues of the web that I am, it is remotely possible that I am completely off base here. But I don't think so.

I think wayfarer sees the light. Do you want to join my army? We'll be storming the gates of the orc camp any day now.

No! Be nice to the orcs! Orcs are your friends! <insert suitably liberal line of thought here>

Just to make it clear - I don't think SGH is over reacting - but I do think that a lot of the arguing has been only half serious or just very heated at times. But hey - once RotK is finished - all this will go away (until the DVDs come out)

It's all in preparation for the war.

You know you can light the marshmallows on fire, wait a few seconds for them to melt a little, then fling them at the enemy. They stick to their skin and continue to burn. It's way fun. And you can make s'mores with them too. (I'll bring the chocolate bars. We need graham crackers, too.)

You don't use graham crackers in Middle Earth - you use Lembas.

Well, I'll grant you this- I was born and bred in the heats of arguments- I cut my teeth on a board where there were 20 people with opinions ranging the entire spectrum, every one of us a zealous fanatic and with no moderator to keep us in check.

So I'll give you that nothing on these boards has been enough to make me blush. And I'll give you that this has gotten irritating in the fact that everybody and their little brother seems to have started a thread on this topic. But still, how bad is it? The people arguing are the most active posters on this board.

All you would need are some

Cram crackers,
Chocolate orcs, and
Marshmellows

and we have our unusual smores.

Now we need a good marketer.

In order to make cram-crackers, you take lembas and put it in a dwarven sheet-metal press (like they use for making their plate armor )

I don't think SGH is over-reacting at all. It's incredibly boring to listen to people carry on and argue, wether they're joking or not. It takes away from any meaningful debate or discussion that might have occured.

I look forward to SGH's crackdown, and support it.

By the way, Wayfarer has never personally ruined my day anyway.
