Okay: explain to the non-jewish person what matza is?

Nevermind. Unleavened bread. Got it.

Easter:

The big happy family together for 10 days
Moving up in the mountain, lodging in a small cabin
Skiing every day
Eggs for breakfast
Oranges and chocolate
Wine, crosswords, games (no TV )

Happy easter, everyone!

Matza... it's not so bad. But the other foods I eat on Passover are. For example: The Passover-kosher cereals (taste like crap), the "Passover brownies" (My mom makes them, they don't have any yeast in them), and how can anyone forget, the horse raddish (I refuse). But there are also some good Passover candies that aren't available any other time of the year, like Ring-gels (Chocolate rings with raspberry jelly inside).

Anyways... Happy (early) Easter and (early) Passover to everyone here!

You too! Happy Easter/Passover to everyone.

Just a question; what are the Ring-gels for? Are they just special treats? I can't think of what they might symbolise! (Though this is not surprising considering my limited knowledge of Judaism)

OK - so I'm supposed to be gone (will be again in a sec or two, so don't go gettin' all exited ) But I did mention that I might pop back from time to time....well this is one of those times.

I simply couldn't go without giving you guys some Easter Eggs

(and those 'eggs will get me in deep sh*t for sure) Cheers!

Well, happy easter folks!

(I feel sorry for Jesus, imagine looking down and seeing the world eating chocolate while they are watching a film of some buggers nailing you to two planks of wood )

Coney, I'm curious: What was Easter about before it was "converted" to Christianity? I'm thinking a Spring Equinox festival, right? Can you give us any details?

It's not that they symbolize anything, it's just a candy that they make for Passover because it doesn't have any yeast in it like many candies and cookies do.

I'm glad it's nearly Easter - partly because Easter's great, and partly because it's the end of Lent! This was the first year I gave something up properly, and 40 days has never seemed so long!

Any one else able to provide some insight?

If you want to, Coney, I'd appreciate an answer from you, too.

A quick look on google pulled up this:
  • Pagans have honored the risen sun, the end of winter, and the arrival of spring during the first full moon on or following the vernal equinox.

But the older significance of the festival also has spiritual meaning. Known by the Romans as Aurora and by Germanic peoples as Ostara, Anglo-Saxon tribes worshiped the goddess Eostra, or Astarte, as the personification of the season that follows winter, as day follows night.
