That's preposterous. A boycott like that would be too massive to even be considered feasible by any thinking person.

I'm curious though, where was this article published?

Fifty bucks she's got German roots. Many, many Americans do.

I'm not against supporting the war, but I am against supporting stupidity.

I don't really see the big deal. If people want to boycott French and German products - it's their right to. Countries all around the world repeatedly call on the boycotting of American products including people in France and Germany - people don't seem to be too outraged by that.

Have you ever been outraged by people who boycott American products or said that people who boycott American products are stupid?

I personally, have boycotted chinese goods for years. It's a pain, and sometimes I have to pay a higher price for things, but I refuse to support the Chinese government's continued violation of human rights.

boycotting isn't stupid, it's a concious decision to vote with your dollars. Did you think it was stupid for people to boycott Proctor and Gamble when they were supporting Dr. Laura's TV show?

Of course it's not stupid, but if we were to boycott those who's people didn't support us:

true, but I can see why they would pick France--they've been our most vocal and obstinate opposition.

*The poet in me can't help but point out that lovely aliteration created by the last two words of that sentence.*

Of course boycotting isn't stupid. It's an effective means of public advocacy, something we could use a whole lot more of.

However, the idea of an entire nation, or a large majority of one, refusing to buy the products of such wealthy countries is unreasonable. In a situation like this, boycotting is not the most efficient medium for protest, nor the most intelligent.

Which? Obstinate Opposition; Support Us; or The World?

Poetic I ain't, but even I am pretty sure it's the first. Just making sure...

Alliteration: the repetition of usually initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring words or syllables.

How can you question the intelligence of boycotting a wealthy country. If one feels, on a personal level, that to support France or Germany monetarily is morally wrong, then how can you call that stupid? And if, indeed, it is perfectly alright for a person to feel obligated to boycott said country, then how is it stupid for them to tell other people about their decision (which they feel is morally right), and ask them to do the same?

I'm not sure if that made sense, I'm tired of the arguement, and I'm going to bed.

PS. GW, I was referring to "obstinate opposition"

A lot of people here boycott companies like Nike, Reebok, Gap etc......because their goods are apparently made in sweatshops that pay pittence........I don't know too much about it to be honest 'cos I wouldn't buy their godawful clothing anyway (ever been into a Gap shop?.......I've seen more colour and character on the back page of the Financial Times than they have in their clothes).

After much deliberation I've decided to boycott both frogs legs (because they undoubtedly look better on the frog than they do on the plated) and escargo (because I refuse to eat anything that looks, and has the consistancy, of brown snot in garlic gloop).

Although it has to be said, my reasons for the boycott arn't 100% politcally motivated
