In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

The Return of the King Ending Revealed?
Tuesday, March 18, 2003 12:13 CST

TheOneRing.net reports that there's an interview with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King director Peter Jackson in the new issue of The Lord of the Rings Fan Club Official Movie Magazine. The spoiler question and answer is about the ending of the third film, hit the back button if you'd rather not know!

But please tell us if you are going to use the "Sailing away from Middle-Earth" ending, which would age the characters a year or two from their final battles in the films and provide a more fitting farewell to such well-loved characters?

The answer is "yes."

Thinking of the ending makes me quite sad. Then it makes me very, very angry.

Oops, I thought you meant the actual books. Yes, the absence of the scouring makes me mad, mad, mad. But the book ending makes me so sad.

It doesn't really make me sad. I suppose a bit, kind of like a tiny bit of an ancient and deep sorrow, fading, and change. But the last line...simple beauty. -sniff- I better stop now...

That line brings the most spectacular story told by mortal man to a perfect and wholly fulfilling end. -breaks out sobbing- It's so beautiful!

-notices snicker; glares-

Ooooh. I feel so privileged, GW. You just keep agreeing with everything I'm saying. (It better last- or you know what'll happen. Something along the lines of making you bawl again)

Hehehe. *wanders off to find more sad lines in the Silm or RotK which happen to be next to the comp*
