Tolkien Bestiary
I just got this great Tolkien Bestiary by David Day. It has descriptions of all kinds of creatures of Middle Earth, including extensive sections on different types of elf, the Maiar, dragons, hobbits, wargs, Beornings, etc. It's pretty slick.

Re: Tolkien Bestiary
It was good, although as I recall it was out of date and was making "educated guesses" about Silmarillion characters (this book was pre-Silmarillion).

Re: Tolkien Bestiary
Hmm, this came out in '79; when was the Silmarillion published?

Re: Tolkien Bestiary
Before '79.
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but David Day probably has the single worst reputation of - anyone, in the Tolkien community. He has his own Middle-earth and that's what he writes about. I haven't read the Bestiary though, only the Encyclopedia, so maybe I'm wrong in this case. |
