I am almost positive that something like this has been done before...Ah, well.

I'll have to be rather specific, as there are lots of broad categories that could be used.

A leaf-bladed bastard longsword. I am especially fond of the various celtic leaf blade designs, and am absolutely in love with the Iberian Falcata. Quatrefoil guards are are goergeous as well, with my preference being for swords that have parrying hooks, spines, and (especially) flares on the blade.

Another weapon that's a favorite of mine is the Bardiche, and the even more impressive Lochaber, both of which are pole arms or war axes, the Lochaber with a backwards facing hook to use as a secondary attack.

Spear wise, I like the leaf bladed variety, which is a simple and highly functional weapon, and also the Zulu Short Spear, the Japanese Yari and Naginita. The japenese weapons, especially, implement a number of useful devices such as jitte that make them more effective.

In the blunt weapons category, there's the venerable mace, of which the gothic design is my favorite, and the war flail, which I prefer in the multi headed variety. Another weapon of my liking is the simple war club-a medium staff of heavy wood with metal studs along the upper length. A rather effecient weapon if I say so myself.

Was that more than you wanted to hear, on not? I hope nobody is scared of me that wasn't already.

Always quite liked the quarterstaff, nice simple bit of timber but does the job. For spears the gae bolga sounds truly unpleasant in that the barbs do more damage being wrenched out than they did going in.

The bastard sword was always a favourite as me and my mates would say "someone give me that bastard sword" and find it amusing every time for...oh...years.

As a combination, broadsword and shield is pretty damn effective.

But wouldn't fancy facing a longbowman (or crossbowman for that matter) across an open field. Crossbowmen? They look bleeding' furious... I'm off!

All my favorite weapons are pre-fire arm. I like longswords, double-handed swords, longbows, etc.

Not really. My intention was for everyone to write down their preferenses of pre-firearm and medieval weapons.
