Return of the King is the last movie. It will arrive in theaters this coming December around the 18th or 19th. That will complete the Lord of the Rings. But, of course there will be a DVD released . . so I expect much of the interest in LOtR movies to continue for another 2 years. Happy?

But they would be dumb not to do a sequel. I know I'm living in a fantasy universe when I say it, but the Scouring of the Shire would be a great sequel.

I'd prefer it as part of the movie, but there's little chance of that happening. They should do the Hobbit, and then maybe even the Silmarillion! (In numerous volumes, of course)

I think the hobbit would make a cute prequel type movie! But I hope they'd leave the Silmarillion alone. Well...maybe, if my faith is restored in PJ after Rotk..but still....

Hmmm. A Silmarillion, or some part of it, might be nice. I guess they could do another trilogy based on it. Beren and Luthien could make an entire movie, and a very cool one. The fall of Numenor would be good too. But everyone I know, once FOTR was out, was clamoring for The Hobbit, and I think that would smack of mere sequelitis. It would feel more like Lethal Weapon 28. The Hobbit, let's face it, would add little to the viewing that isn't covered in LOTR. You've got orcs, wolf-riders, Rivendell, Elrond, Gandalf, Bilbo, the Ring, Gollum, a big battle sequence...it would feel like a retread. The only real standout addition would be the story of Smaug. Although I would feel it slightly worth it to see Legolas played by Orlando Bloom, among the band of wood elves who capture the dwarves, maybe even leading them (as he is the king's son).

Or what if... seeing as how they love to make money... what if they break it into six movies to match the six books. Nah... I've been into the bad acid again. @]

PJ might consider doing the hobbit. it said in the making of the movie trilogy book that he was going to do the hobbit, but then said why not do the LOTR instead? so hopefully there will be a hobbit.

i really wanna see the dragon....... that would be awesome

Don't get your hopes up . . .
PJ said in a recent interview (LOTR fan magazine) that he was pretty much exhausted after making LotR, and plans to do "little" movies for awhile. This has been an enormous amount of work, whether you like the result or not.

One of you will have to make the Hobbit and/or the Silmarillion.

True. No matter how mad I get at PJ, I still respect his work.

Yeah, I originally thought he was working on it for 5 years to this point, but I read yesterday that he has actually been working on everything for the past 10 years!!!

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

Oh, I hope that the Silmarillion will never be made into a movie! Ever! It is Tolkien's masterpiece, and it would be awful if anyone tried to machete it into a film. It would completely ruin and belittle the wonder of it. I love the Sil, as a book, never as a movie!!!

.
They can't put the Scouring of the Shire into ROTK, because they're going to kill off Saruman.

I read that.

I'm not sure what more The Hobbit could add either, unless he "darkened" it up a little. It would be hard for the story to match the scale and fear that LOTR instills without doing so. Of course the Battle of the Five Armies would be great, and the dragon.

Money talks. I will be surprised if New Line and PJ do not get together and do it. New Line stands to make another 400% movie profit slam dunk if they can get the rights.

My friend told me that Peter Jackson's next "Big" project was going to be the Narnia Chronicles. Which could be cool, but would be as big or bigger than LOTR. But, I wouldn't trust Rachel must farther than I could throw her on some things, so. Just what I heard.

"The Hobbit" and "The Silmarillion" would be fun movies -- but again, a lot of work.

Nazgul ...

I don't believe in Peter Jackson (or anybody) making a film of "The Hobbit". It would seem like a good idea, but the budget would have to be large and it isn't necessary to make people angry at all the changes he would make in this film as he did in the Lord of the Rings. It's good for some of Tolkien's works to stay the same as they are, you know, like well-preserved, shall I say? Besides, we have to keep Tolkien's actual work living instead of letting Peter Jackson's mainstream movie reign continue. We wouldn't have the movies without the books, now would we?

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows.
"Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.'

'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!'
