Rohan Trivia Question...

How many generations of the Rohirrim royal family were living during the reign of Aldor the Old?

If anyone knows, it would be very helpful. [Please put source(s).] Thanx!

Oh, and sorry if this should be somewhere else (Middle Earth maybe?) Books seemed the most appropriate place for it.

Terrific question, Helix! Checked out Appendix A in The Return of the King. Now, Aldor the Old ruled for 75 years, from the death of his father, Brego, in T.A. 2570 to his own death in 2645. (His brother, Baldor, had entered the Paths of the Dead and would not be seen again by living eyes until the ride of the Grey Company.)

During Aldor King's long reign, the future kings Fréa, Fréawine, Goldwine and (barely) Déor (his son, grandson, great-grandson and great-great-grandson, respectively) were around, so the answer is: four generations.

He too has come to his present state by his own actions and will go hence according to his own actions. wow. Amazed at the level of effort put into that question. Impressed, too.

I assume this is Glorfindel the excluded you're asking about?

GW is correct -- one would have to count Aldor's generation, too, so it would be five generations.

Aw, I was hoping this might turn into a Rohan trivia thread (unless there's already one around that I haven't seen yet). It's surprising how much detail there is about Rohan and the Rohirrim, yet they don't always get examined as closely, given the stirring events of the War of the Ring and Gondor's prominence.

Just in case anyone's interested, here's another Rohan trivia question:
Quote:
At the foot of the walled hill the way ran under the shadow of many mounds, high and green. Upon their western sides the grass was white as with a drifted snow: small flowers sprang there like countless stars amid the turf.

'Look!' said Gandalf. 'How fair are the bright eyes in the grass! Evermind they are called, Simbelmynë in this land of Men, for they blossom in all the seasons of the year, and grow where dead men rest. Behold! we are come to the great barrows where the sires of Théoden sleep.'

'Seven mounds upon the left, and nine upon the right,' said Aragorn.
Although Aragorn didn't mention it, the Simbelmyné grew most thickly on the ninth mound. Why?

Theoden

I believe it was because that was the burial place of Helm Hammerhand. Will wait for confirmation before posting another question if right.

Quite right, Beleg Strongbow: the "drifting snow" motif of the flowers recalled his death outside in the cold (and perhaps also that of his son Háma, who along with his men had been lost in the snows earlier that year) during the seige of the Deep by Dunlendings in the Long Winter of 2759. Your turn!

Was it Wulf? Or is he only in the card game?

It is indeed Wulf, but a different Wulf from the card game. Nonetheless the answer is correct: your turn, Helix!

How did the Rohirrim get the Gap of Rohan to live in? They did not originally live to the north of Gondor.

After a battle with the wainriders, they made an alliance with the stewards of Gondor and Cirion ceeded them the fields of Calenardhon.

Eomer was the Third Marshal of the Riddermark. Name one person who at any time was the First.
