Question about Necromancer

Okay, so I'm just wondering who this guy is. All I really know about him is that Gandalf and the other Wizards drove him out of Mirkwood. But where did he come from? Who is he? Where did he go? IS he dead? anyone who can answer these questions will be reward with a genuine "thank you"

The necromancer is most likely Sauron. And he buggered off back to Mordor.

You may be confusing the Necromancer/Sauron with the Nazgul who He later sent to run Dol Guldar after he had resestablished Mordor. Also before Gandalf IDed the necromancer as Sauron, he was suspected to be a nazgul.

Hmm. Where did you guys figure that out? Some people seem to be disagreeing. And, SGH, I'm already confused. If he is Sauron, that's a big bummer for me.

And zavron, how could I nick your quote if I never met you before, online or otherwise?

I'm pretty sure that Gandalf tells either the council at Rivendell, or Frodo before he starts out on his journey that the Necromancer was Sauron...

Lefty, I'm assuming that those are some of Sauron's aliases? If my name meant "the abhorred", I'd pick a new one, too.

Nariel, don't mind zavron. He's only trying to be irritating.

Geez, zavron - Lefty's answer was a polite and accurate response to your post, and he even tried to show you why you might have thought why you did. You said you thought he was Sauron's servant - "I always actually thought the necromancer was a servant of sauron" - Lefty correctly replied that the necromancer WAS Sauron, but also gave you the additional info that after Sauron left Mirkwood, he left one of his servants (who WAS a nazgul) in charge there.

Yes, crick, those are some of Sauron's aka's. Annatar means "Lord of Gifts" - he tried to hoodwink the Elves with that one. But Elrond and Gil-galad weren't fooled, although many other Elves were, at first.
