Sauron's number 1?

Just who was next in line behide sauron. Was it really the witch king or the mouth of sauron. If the witch king wasn't destroyed at the pelennor fields, would the mouth of sauron still be calling the shots at the black gate? And all the land the mouth was promised by sauron.Would that have been the witch king's if he lived?Any thoughts.

The Witch King probably was Sauron's lieutenant, or second-in-command. He had experience from when he ruled the kingdom of Angmar, and was clearly in charge of the military. Though the Mouth probably would have been granted territories as well. The Mouth of Sauron still would probably have been speaking at the gates, however, seeing as the other Nazgul were there, and he still spoke.

He was more than a herald, if less than Sauron's number 1 man. The Mouth of Sauron was the Lieutenant of Barad-dûr.

Any ideas to where the Leutanant named as Gothmog would fit in? Or was that what the mouth of sauron was called. Or was that the commander of Minas Morgul, I just confused myslef

Gothmog, in addition to being Lord of Balrogs.... Wasn't he commander of Durthang?

"Gothmog was the Lord of the Balrogs, high captain of Angband, slayer of Fingon, Feanor and Ecthelion. "... the Sil.
Gothmog, however, was the lieutenant of Minas Morgul in the third age.

I belive Gothmog was a orc caption of minus morgul.Although a lot of people think he was one of the nazgul. He may have been third in comand behide khmaul.I go with the orc caption. It just fits better.

Next in line...

First, of course, the Witchking, formerly Lord of Angmar; then most likely Khamul, the Black Easterling; third would probably be Gothmog, surnamed after the Lord of Balrogs of old.
