Don't judge a book by its movie

What do you think are some good and some bad movie adaptations?

Good: Gone with the Wind, Pride and Prejudice (the one w/ Colin Firth), From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (the 1970s version, I haven't seen the later one).

Bad: The Secret Garden (the tv movie that came out back in the '80s; I think one's been done since then, but I haven't seen it).

Another good one - in fact I would say that this is the best movie adaption I have seen so far - Anne of Green Gables. I love that movie!

Nope, I don't think the little women movie measured up to the book.

What about Princess Bride?

The Shipping News....bad, bad, bad.

The Godfather I and II. Made the book seem better than it was. I think that this might be the only case where the movie is better than the book.

Queen of the Damned!

That movie made me so mad, especially because The Vampire Lestat was one of my favorite Anne Rice books ever and Queen of the Damned was a good book to but the movie was the worst piece of film I've seen in a while!

It may just be that I'm remembering the book incorrectly (I give no guarantees any more about what floats around in this old cranium ), but the movie Bladerunner was totally different from the book.

They were completely different. The book wasn't one of Philip K. Dicks better ones, and the movie is one of my favourites. But it's like comparing chalk and cheese. Ridley Scott only based the movie loosely on the book.

This is odd, but the only movie that's been made from a book (not the other way around) that I thought was better in movie format is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, er, 'scuse me, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The movie is so much better than the book! And I even read the book first.

And I managed so well to constrain my comments, Arwen's Nubian Lover.
