Elves of levity...Elves of sorrow.

Elves of levity...Elves of sorrow.

It seems to me that the Silvan Elves were the most at peace in ME.

The Noldor seem to have a bitter sweet love with ME.

The Sindar seem to be somewhere between the two.

Your thoughts.

About Eowyn,
Does anyone know what her alias Dernhelm means?

She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

'Dern Helm"

Oh AE, you know my thoughts on this. Plus, Tolkien himself says that the Noldor suffered more than any other of the Elves.

Ah, my beloved Baranavar, you are too obviously obsessed with Elves Not that I'm not.

I think you are right, or close to being right. The Wood-elves certainly seem to have been a peaceful lot, especially before the coming of Grey-elves and High-elves into their midst. The Nandorin/Avarin peoples of the Vales of Anduin really don't appear to have had a care in the world. Indeed when the handful of Iathrim from Doriath led by Oropher came to Greenwood the Great, they wished to return to (what they thought was) the peaceful life natural to the Eldar, before they were disturbed by the summons of the Valar.

Though, I think of the Vanyar. Surely these are the luckiest and happiest Elves in the world? All of them made it to the Blessed Realm, and those that returned were extremely few. They lived at the feet of Taniquetil, or in the woods and hills round about. I would much rather live in the Undying Realm than in the Woodland Realm, though I suppose my stay in the former would have to be short.

Mostly because of the dreadful oath of Feanor and his sons, I believe.

I agree that the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood were the most happy and content of the Elves in ME. They had after all lived mostly undisturbed and in peace ever since they diverged from the Great Journey.

But there were Silvan Elves in Lorien as well. I'm not so sure about their happiness.

The Noldor suffered the most; maybe that is why they are so sombr and battle-hardened?
