*takes a deep breath* Do some research sonny. What could she contribute to the fellowship that the current members don't? Ah forget it, this doesnt even merit a reply.

BoP:
Not more Arwen *starts screaming* I think you will find that most people believe there was too much of Arwen in the movie already. She isn't in the fellowship in the book (if you have read it).

First of all, I believe PJ thought that there was enough of her. I sure did think there was too much of her. Second of all, she was never supposed to be half the roles she was in, referring back to point no. 1 (Stealing Glorfy's horse for example.) Point No. 3... he knew that J.R.R.T. fans would mob him if he had made THAT change.... *looks lovingly at her crossbow in the corner*

She's not good. All she did was wave the sword around, you never saw her use it! All she does is glow and give away jewelry.
And like Claenoic said, if she had joined the fellowship millions of Tolkien fans would be hunting PJ down, torching his house and wreaking all sorts of havoc. Oh, and I hate to nit-pick but It's Rivendell and Elrond.

Okay, book Arwen I like, though there's little of her - but the movie Arwen has just COMPLETELY ruined this girl's reputation.

ElfofMirkwood, you're clearly a newbie, so I'll be merciful....this time. Allow me to clarify a few things for you:
-You obviously haven't read the books...or you'd know the answer to your question. -You need to learn how to type...or spell. -There was already way too much of Arwen in the movie, we don't need PJ adding a 10th member to the Fellowship! -If he did, I would personally organize all the 'mooters into an army of Tolkienistic righteousness to torture and murder PJ. -I'm not trying to be mean, really I'm not, but when someone makes such a blatant display of ignorance, one really must draw the line somewhere!

*breathes deeply*
If I had been forced to endure anymore of Arwen during FotR... I would have hated the movie for that one, simple thing. I couldn't even stand the fact that she did as much as she did, I didn't like her in the books because she didn't really do anything... and I liked her even less in the movie because they made her seem as though she did. (I know it's nothing new, but I had to say something....

You're right of course, Sween, there are far too many rabid Anti-Arwen fans out there. Of course I can still send my winged trained monkeys out to give ill-read people wedgies. Or I could just send Bob the Dinosaur.

You know, there IS a real reason that Arwen would not have joined the Fellowship.
In the books, Elrond Half-Elven's wife (Celebren? Dangit, can't find Return of the King right now) was slain by Orcs at Redhorn Gate, if I recall correctly. This was Arwen's mother. The loss of his wife would have made Elrond loath to let Arwen out of the environs of Rivendell, at least not wihtout a huge armed escort, which would have stuck out like a sore thumb the second that they left the valley. It is this part which belies the true stretching of the story by Jackson, because there is no way in Mordor that Elrond would have let arwen go a'riding off into the Wild to search for Aragorn and the hobbits. What I never really completely understood, however, is why Glorfindel Balrog-Slayer was not selected as a member of the Fellowship. Could that be that a Maiar trying to disguise himself as an ol man (Gandalf) and a high elf in their party would have made the Nazgul zero in on 'em like a hound dog on a porkchop?

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." Celebrian was kidnapped by orcs, not slain, as far as I can recall correctly. But she was so traumatised by it that she went west fairly early.

And Arwen could leave Rivendell if she chose. The real reason she didn't is the same as Elrond's. They were healers. Elf healers tried to avoid battle unless absolutely necessary.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Celebrian was injured so badly by the Orcs that she went West to seek healing?
Oh, and this thread is finally in the proper forum. Thank you to whoever moved it.
