What do you most admire about Hobbitts ?

Humorously or seriously, what do you most admire about the Hobbitts (no single character in particular, but if you care to name one, fine), in terms of what they uniquely contribute to LOTR and Tolkien's writings.

Or what are the most interesting, impressive or amusing comment/s you've read or heard someone make, on the subject.

I'll take a stab . I admire the way hobbits work the land they've been given. They beautify it and make it useful without damaging it. I admire the way they work with what's in front of them. It might be nice to know the meaning of life and the origin of the universe, but what does it really matter! A good meal, a comfortable bed, a laugh with friends, a sit in the garden, this is the good stuff and hobbits seem to know it naturally. I also admire that they give presents on their bday's instead of getting!

I like the straightforwardness of Hobbits. They have simple likes and dislikes and are easily understood. They are a peaceful race, which makes a change from all the wars that the other races encounter (I know that they HAVE fought, but prefer not to). They like life as it is, and not how it could be, and are thankful for what they have.

I like their tenacity - once they decide to do something, there's no stopping them!

I like how in the scouring of the shire, they were roused and stood up for themselves. I also like how they enjoy some good weed (even though its bad for you) and beer. Just today I wished I was a hobbit, living in the shire, when I heard about the horrible things going on in our world.

They're still around - they're just shy of big people.

I don't admire hobbits. There's one quality I like, and it that they could walk very quietly.

What's not to admire about them? They've got it made! They live longer, they're more relaxed, they're good at lore (Hobbit lore anyway), naturalopathy, relaxing... Yeah, their lifestyle is so much better than ours...

This is exactly why they were the perfect choice to destroy the Ring. They were a simple uncomplicated folk, and Saron never paid them any mind. As Gandalf said: Perhaps Sauron will not pay any attention to the quiet steps of Hobbits. Something like that.

Hobbits aren't intimidated by the big people even though they're short. They really are the type of creatures who don't care what anyone else thinks as long as they're doing what they believe is right. PLUS they have their own ways and just live them, despite all the horror of the world around them.

Hobbits are very cool.

I like their honesty and loyalty to each other, and the way they're mostly wrapped up in their own simple lives when great events are happening in the big world outside. They don't make things too complicated. Also, in some strange way, they remind me of England, and I like that.

The average age for a person (human) to live to is about 70 and some hobbits lived to be over a hundred. I don't know (m)any people who lived to be as old as hobbits and some of them lived to be well over a hundred.

They do. I can't remember where I read it, but they live to about 150 years in our time frame. Or I could be making it up.
