I love them both, Michael Martinez will tell you that Atlas of the Middle Earth has some major flaws (I read his Amazon.com review. [I'm not stalking him]) I think it is a great refrence to be oriented on the locations of characers. I also love the Guide, I think it is the best non-Tolkien middle earth book ever.

The Complete Guide To Middle-earth by Robert Foster is by far IMHO the best reference book available on Tolkien's works. However, it is somewhat out dated since it contains no reference material pertaining to any of the HoMe or Unfinished Tales, but it is still a great help for LotRs and the Silmarillion.
