I'm truly impressed. If it's your dad who wrote it, I have to say you have a very smart dad. (sorry for my sceptic wording but I've been had so much lately I'm getting a little suspicous of nearly everthing I hear ) I have never seen Tolkien as a catholic that much but I must say this article sure gave me more insight and a lot to think about.

Yes, he is my dad. He was a college professor in the '60s (an thereafter as well) and taught Tolkien in his literature class. That is when at the age of 9 I was introduced to the wonders of The Hobbit, and subsequently read TLOR on my own. I couldn't get enough. Yet I was unaware myself of the Catholic background of Tolkien till he recently wrote this Essay. I maintain the web pages for him and had to share with others in the Tolkien community. I loved the movie, but my dad, steadfastly, won't go see it. (He doesn't want his minds picture of middle earth destroyed by hollywood) Oh well.

I hope you don't mind if I add your site to my treasured list of bookmarks.

I had to stop work for a while to read. Oops. And I couldn't stop reading since it was very enlightening. I was also reminded of Tolkien's Essay on Faeries.

Yes, my dad taught a literature class on Tolkien. Sorry to say that neither of us ever met the man.

I found two typos: "Gandalf relied" (should be "replied" at the end of IV) and "Christian West" (should be "Christian Quest" in the middle of IV)

The essay is very impressive. Interesting. Fascinating. I've read a lot of bad Tolkien essays. I still cringe every time I think of that Tom as Witchking theory *cringes*. I suppose you don't need me to tell you your father is one of the more learned Tolkien scholars. One of the real Tolkien scholars I should say.

Most baffling, (interesting?), though, were the comments about Islam. Yet, I probably shouldn't go into that.

Thanks for the "Gandalf relied" typo, but the other one should be "Christian West", being a reference to Western culture which is dominated by Christian Values. If you noticed the name of the site is, TrueWest.info, which is a continuation of that theme.
