Don't you mean "Huan", as in the quote from Sauron's werewolf at Tol Sirion, "Huan is there!"? Huan, the slayer of Cacharoth?

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." Yes. Originally Haun belonged to Celegorm. But when Celegorm betrayed Luthien, Haun aided her. He also helped to heal Beren after he was attacked by Morgoth's wolf.

Yes, his name was Huan (two syllables). If someone's Silmarillion has "Haun", then it's in error.

My mistake folks. I wasn't paying attention as I typed, and I didn't use the book. But it is Huan. Sorry.

Actually, Haun was Huan's younger sibling. When Huan was given to Celegorm by Orome, Haun went to live with the Teleri.

According to my vast volumes of knowledge, Huan was not a wolf. He was a hound.

Oh, about the vast volumes of knowledge thing, I was only joking...

I don't want to stray too far off topic, but speaking of Carcharoth, how was he able to get through the Girdle of Melian?

RE:Haun

He had the silmaril in his belly and he'd been fed Morgoth's hand.
