Nazgul powers

the witch king :
1)was a sorceror
2)had the black breath
3)an aura of fear
4) if a blade struck him it disentergrated
5) glorfindel foretold that he would not be slain by man.

It seems that all Nazgul had the aura of fear but lesser than the WK.

what about the #4.

and as far as 5 could the others be slain by anyone. meaning I know the WK was a speicial case. But if eomer fought nazgul #6.
could the nazgul be harmed by him?

Also it seems the aura of fear could be reeled in bit when they were dealing with mortal.

But it could be eminated also.

however it seems that those of suffiecent will power could resist it.

aragorn showed no fear when on weather top.

menendil would have fought if his horse didn't run away

faramir a boromir where the last to flee osilgaith (sp?)

But what about Eowyn and merry was it becasue by that time see cared not if she lived or died and merry was just naive in his devotion there was no fear upon him.

Good post. As for your last paragraph, I think Éowyn was indeed careless. She didn't care if she lived or died, though that does not mean she was unvaliant. And Merry, he was terrified. For the longest time he couldn't even move for his terror. But he took courage and faced his fears, because of his love for Éowyn, who he felt shouldn't die alone.

Hobbits are suprirising little creatures, they suprise you by being more resilant and courageous then you woudl think sucha soft pleasure loving race could, i think as far as courage you could rank them higher then aragorn or legolas because arargorn and legolas were warriors who could take care of them selves, but the hobbits needed true courage,

speaking of elves do you think they feared the Nazgul

Elrond said that there were few in his household who could ride openly against the nine

I think that this means that the 9 together are quite powerful and that facing all nine at once would difficult for those in his household.

I don't that it was fear of them as nazgul per se as in the way mortals fear ghost. but just the fear of a powerful enemy.

wraith means ghost and an elf like legolas who is not counted among the mighty of the world had no fear of human ghost, and seem undaunted about shoting at a nazgul

do you think elves would fear barrow wights?

Wights are more fearsome then orcs, its just that elves generally have little fear.

Don't the Elves live in both the real Middle-earth world and the wraith world all at the same time? They are a part of both worlds.

Well.... I believe that the aura of fear for my brothers was not as strong against the purer races of the elves, dwarves and dunadain, and strongest against the weak men.

However, even those races would have feared if they met me, Queen of the Nazgul anmd most beloved.

I don't think elves would find ghosts and such (and barrow-wights) because they are ded MEN (or women, but anyway. . .) and elves are, well, elves. They do not carry the same fears of dying as men do, because they, for the most part, do not die. Therefore, they have nothing to fear from dead men, and such. As for fearing the Nazgul, well, Nazgul are much worse than Wights and such, I think because of the rings, and maybe somethign to do with Sauron's deception and, well, they have all those powers. . .maybe someone who knows more about the Nazgul than I could better say this. . .

It's not clear that the Barrow Wights were dead Men. The spirits of Men remained the world only once in a blue moon. The Dead Men of Dunharrow were truly remarkable. The Wights may have been Mannish wraiths, or they may have been Elvish wraiths, or they may have been Maiar.

Okay, good point about the barrow-wights, but I thought since the barrow-wights in the Old Forest were Numenorean (or at least the swords were), they would be men.

Oh. Okay. I should read up on barrow-wights. I didn't really know what I was talking about, as was evident from my posts.

Actually I agree with you, I think they're Mannish wraiths too. It's just anybody's guess.

wow

on the 1st page of journey in the dark

it says:

" the ringwraiths are deadly enemies, but are only shadows yet of their power and terror they would posses if the ruling ring was on they're master's hand again"

the witch king brought down arnor and drove the gondorians from minas ithil WITHOUT the one ring on sauron's hand nor did he fear gandalf the white at the gates of minas tirith

that's one bad ass

Nazgul

He is certainly one scary thing I have a reality theory that all dimensions of the universe are possible and actually dementors siths horsemen of the apocalypse and ringwraiths are in fact the same thing but in different dimensions
Legolas says that the dead of men don't scare him and the craetures of the barrows are just the dead of men under evil possession an elvish exorcism is all that is required
