Recoverability of Ringil

It wouldn't be very easy, but I wonder if it would be possible for somebody to find Fingolfin's final resting place and to take Ringil. I know Fingolfins body was carried off by eagles after he died, but I think the final resting spot was still on middle earth. Ringil created permanent wounds on Morgoth, so think of what it could have done to Sauron. It would take somebody really good to use Ringil, but there were still elves in the second age capable of doing so.

If you are going to be doing a lot of fighting, then you want the best weapon possible. Ringil would be a very good weapon of choice for fighting against Balrogs, Sauron, or whatever else you wanted.

I don't think it would be very good for an RPG. It is best not to let characters get hold of powerful weapons like that. I am just wondering if it would be possible, and how it could affect the story line if it did happen/

IIRC, when Fingolfin was killed, Thorondor retrieved his body and took it I believe to Turgon, and he was burried somewhere in Gondolin. Not positive though.

Well... that's sort of a waste of time, considering ringil wouldn't do any more damage than other noldorin swords. All thier weapons were enchanted to glow when in the presence of evil creatures, and were very effective against otherwise hard to damage enemies.

But no, you're not going to get it, and it wouldn't do you much good if you did. The power was in fingolfin, not in Ringil.

your best bet would be to find a good elven smith and have them forge one for you.

Gollum

Funny you mentioned this Twilight, I once read a fan fiction story dealing with Ringil after the death of Fingolfin.

But thinking on your question of wether I would be possible to find Ringil I think if anyone wanted that sword he should have gone after it pretty quick. After Melkor was defeated the lands changed and I believe that would mean that Fingolfin's tomb would be submerged to. And I don't think underwater archeology existed in Middle-Earth

for people who enjoy discussing the upsides and downsides of various weapons in middle-earth: visit http://thangorodrim.angband.org and download the best roleplaying game ever, based on tolkien. it's called angband, and you can actually wield ringil!

i am an official Angband Addict, and i am wielding: Narya, Nenya, the Phial of Galadriel, the Set of Cesti of Fingolfin....etc...

some of you may be going 'huh?'...play angband and enjoy killing morgoth! (that's the object of the game, get to level 100 of the dungeon and kill morgoth)
