How would they react?

How do you think the charecters of LotR would react to the modern world?

I personally think everyone would be scared S***-less then get all pissy at the elves for leaving middle-earth in the first place.

Yeah, they'd probably be terrified and confused. But that's why we're here! To give them places to stay and take care of them! Good care, very good . . .

I think they'll act like those people that went forward in time in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Things to do if you can bring them here:

the 4 hobbits: don't bring them to golf course. the owners have problems enough with rodent-sized holes. They'll need open space too and smoking areas.

Gandalf & Saruman: They'll be wide-eyed when they see my Athlon workstation with a 28.8 kbps (they'll still be impressed ) connection as well as cable TV.

Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli: These guys will make you rich if you enter them in Survivor.

Depends on where they land in. If they landed in some huge city, hell, they'd be freaked and think Sauron or Sharkey was responsible for what they see. (Notice how Tolkien likes to portray the bad guys as those who have huge, menacing towers and machinery? The guy must have seriously hated the Industrial Revolution.) And Gandalf would probably destroy my PC, calling it the work of Sauron. It'd take a miracle to make them like the modern world i guess. (Legolas and Gimli: What?? So little forests? No glittering caves? You call that a river? Farmer Maggot: What do you mean? You don't have a farm around here? No mushrooms? No taters?)

The worst thing would be talking. I guess not many people on Earth can speak Quenya. Sindarin or Westron normally to interact. About 500, I'd say. So, imagine how would this be.
BTW, if the Fellowship doesn't land near a LotR-fan house, they would be sent to mental-hospital in a few hours (anyone seen the film "Aliens" and "Aliens 2"?)

hehehe... I can see it now....

( Fellowship appears in front of door)

Gandalf raps on the door with staff. The rest of the fellowship look around, bewildered.

I lazily get off couch and walk to the door in a sloppy manner.

Gandalf(in Westron): Good afternoon. May I know where this place is?

Me: huh? you seem familiar....You're Gandalf right?

Legolas(in Westron):What is she speaking?

Gimli(In Westron):I don't know. Sounds like the black speech.

Me: The rest of the fellowship's here too? Can I have a look at that ring of yours Frodo? (Reaches for chain hanging round his neck.)

Frodo(In Westron): Help! She's attacking me. She wants the Ring!

Aragorn, who is standing behind Frodo, draws his sword. The rest of the fellowship get out their weapons too. Sam brandishes his frying pans. Frodo draws sting. It is glowing.... (for some unknown reason)

Me: S***! (Gimli grips axe even tighter.)
Stares nervously around. (They don't understand me! Quick! Think of an elvish phrase!)

Me: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!

I get bewildered looks from all around.

Aragorn (in Westron): The orc just spoke Quenya!

Gimli:Sauron's orcs are getting smarter than those uruk-hai. Must be a new breed. Let's kill it all the same!

They charge at me.....

Me: AIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! HEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!! I...I...am no orc....yrrch.....WHATEVER YOU CALL THEM!!!!!!! CALL THE POLICE!!!

*Screams and trys to make it for the back door with arrows whistling above my head.*

Sigh...That was lame.

Actually it be damn funny because the only names we know (unless you're really well read in the subject) are Boromir, Aragorn and Legolas. Gimli and the Hobbit names are translations. However if one knew a little Quenya you could function well and to make a really could impression you could bow at Aragorn's feet and say hail the king or some such.

Oh come on! i don't think the Company would b that aggresive ( ), except mayb Gimli. Aragorn and Gandalf would try to think of a rational explanation. The Hobbits would b looking around, confused. Boromir would b defending the Hobbits and Legolas would be trying 2 control Gimli.

Me: WOW!! The Company really does live!

The Company: HUH?!?!?!?!?!?

I don't know, without Mount Doom the Ring couldn't be destroyed, so it'd eventually take Frodo over and then HE'D become ruler of the world.

I hope that they wouldn't killed me outright for being a Swerting, Haradrim or a Southron.

If I survived long enough to get MELLON out of my mouth. I'd show them the Books then turn on the Palantir ( PC) and then go to the Online Sindarin dictionary then hit all the Tolkien site.

Then I'd ask all the important questions starting off with did Balrogs have wings.

If I would meet the fellowship, my first job would be to announce this to all you guys in the moot
The second thing - I'd mail to H.K. Fauskanger (the famous ardalambion author), cause he's probably the best Quenya speaker in this Earth...

Ok Ok I won't ask them for any reactions until I've brought them to see the movie. I'd like to know their critique about what happened and how they were portrayed.

To remove the any language impediments, they'll be required to wear Federation communicator pins.

Federation communicator pins????

If the fellowship arrived at my door, I would be very well motivated to learn Quenya . . .
But then again, I'd probably butcher it. Maybe that's not such a good idea.

Me: *says something that's supposed to be Quenya but is really just turning out to be gobbledgook*
Legolas: *in quenya* What's she saying?
Gandalf: I have no idea . . . Step back, Frodo, she could be evil!
Me: *desperately* Mellon!
Gimli: Friend? *raises eybrow*
Boromir: Who are you?
Me: *tries to say "I don't understand you!"*
Aragorn: She isn't of the race of Men, or of Elves, or of Hobbits . . . What is she, and where's she from?
Me: *not understanding a word*
Me: *muttering* Damn Internet Quenya courses . . . I wish my Computer had let me onto the Ardalambion . . .
Merry and Pippin: Does she have any food?
Sam: Oh, be quiet.
Frodo: *Steps forward.*
Me: *astonished* Errr . . . Maura?

And so on . . . the fellowship showing up anywhere near me would be a disatster.
