Who were the kitties?

In FOtR, in the chapter "A Journey in the Dark." Aragorn refers to the "cats of Queen Beruthiel."

Quote:
He will not go astray-if there is any path to find. He has led us in here against all our fears, but he will lead us out again, at whatever cost to himself. He is surer of finding his way home on a dark night than the cats of Queen Beruthiel.
Does anyone have the slightest idea who this queen was? Is the story in the Unfinished Tales? (I'm not finished reading that yet...so I wouldn't know.)

Yes, it's in UT. Look for it in the section on the Istari. Or look up 'Berúthiel' in the Index in the back, that'll probably get you there quicker.

In the Book of Lost Tales I seem to remember the story-telling gardener guy talking about "Melkor Prince of Cats" or something like that. Are these the same cats or is there another brood out there?

Queen Berúthiel was Queen to the 12th King of Gondor, she had nine black cats and one white cat. She made them travel around Gondor finding secrets and when they returned, she read their mind.

Nazgul

Also, we saw the Royal Dog peeing on the White Tree.

*/ Currently has a rather nasty cat-bite on his forehead. I think it might be infected, but for some reason the cat died instantly.
