Sam Gamgee Frondo?

I have asked this question at the barrow-downs...but I wonder if anyone noticed that Frodo was mispelled Frondo in the first book?

What page, what edition? Then I'll go look for it.

In my book, which is printed by Ballantine Books, and was released in 1973 (I think, but I'm not sure about the date), on page 466, Frodo is referred to as Bilbo. However, this is fixed in my other copies of FotR.

I recently replaced my rather tatty three-book LotR set with an excellent one-volume edition published to celelbrate the centurion of Tolkien's birth. Its marvellous, illustrations on every 50th page so I wouldn't know about 'Frondo'.

uh...

well...that's just the thing...i can't find it now! It is driving me nuts because i don't know if i really saw it or not now! The edition is old...it is not mine...i actually gave it back to the owner yesterday. But the cover is green and it has a picture of Gandalf and Bilbo on the front...if that helps.

i have one of the earliest editions of LOTR with the original illustrations on them. the books are full of typos, words are misspelled, punctuation is occassionally left out (i'm a REALLY slow reader so i pick up everything). these things happen especially in older books. if you follow the editions typos becomes scarcer and scarcer. i haven't looked at the latest edition (w/ movie frames on cover) which may well be typo free.

I had that same edition of LotR. Green with Gandalf and Frodo... and I think I remember the typo. Was it near the end?

I was going to get rid of that old copy since I got nifty new ones (not the set with movie propoganda) for Christmas. I can dig it out of the trash bag it's in and check.

Yes, I know... it's wrong to throw away a Tolkien book, but you haven't seen how beautiful the set I have now is.

To Radagast!

""I recently replaced my rather tatty three-book LotR set with an excellent one-volume edition published to celelbrate the centurion of Tolkien's birth. Its marvellous, illustration on every 50th page so I wouldn't know about 'Frondo'. ""

It`s a bit stupid to bring this up in a thread. But since you have exluded pm from your profile I have to. I was wandering if you could email me the ISBN-number of the book mentioned above. Since I live in Norway I need the ISBN-number to get a hold of books that`s not published in Norway. If you would mail me this number on a pm,I would be greatfull.

I dropped my ancient copy in the bath! Luckily it's really think paper so it survived. The book is full of grammar and punctuation errors, but that doesn't stop you getting into the book, good ideas can't be destroyed by typos and errors!
