All of these are understandable, and I think we can expect FOTR to land noms in most. Categorically speaking, it has a clear shot at landing the highest number of noms all-round - so far this year, the only other film that has been praised around almost all departments for the category awards is Moulin Rouge, and from what we've seen so far, FOTR is equal to or above it in terms of calibre in these. History shows that often, the film with the most noms takes Best Picture away...

Of course, we'll have to see how good this film really is.

Interesting is the omission of Christopher Lee from New Line's recommendations for Best Supporting Actor. Also interesting, though totally unsurprising is how they're apparently pushing "May It Be" for Song, despite the other arguably superior vocal selections...

this is the list for FOTR. perhaps in TT or ROTK we'll see Elijah Wood as leading actor or Christopher Lee as supporting actor.

I think this is the same situation as The Godfather back in 1972, when Al Pacino was nominated for Supporting Actor and Marlon Brando for Leading Actor, when their roles were much to the same extent as Frodo and Gandalf in LOTR, respectively...

Besides, these are just New Line's recommendations.

now MAYBE they have a reason for listing Elijah Wood as a "supporting actor" instead of an "actor" - but still, i'm a little concerned...

but FM is right - i bet for the later movies the "best actor" list will change considerably. in RotK certain Men and certain Hobbits will HAVE to do wonderful work merely to do justice to the book, and i'm sure those actors know it.

Liv Tyler? i have never seen her do Oscar-caliber work.

Cate Blanchett? oh yes.

conveniantly enough, my latest movie worry is how well the actors are going to portray certain characters' complexities (namely Boromir & Aragorn)
