McKellen has seen film, retracts "no prologue" statement

There is indeed a prologue regarding the history behind the One Ring.

Read on:
http://www.mckellen.com/cinema/lotr/011127.htm

So this is how some necessities from The Hobbit and LOTR I.2 ("The Shadow of the Past") are going to be presented. I wonder how much will be in the prologue and how much will be in Gandalf's revelations to Frodo...

Will this not confuse non-fans with a large amount of information to cope with at the start? Galadriels narrative may help though.

I don't think it'll confuse non-fans, rather I think it's necessary to set up that world. Reviews are starting to make their way online, very exciting times!

Gandalf First reviews are coming in...

Head over to darkhorizons.com and you'll find links for two reviews from fans that have caught early screenings of the film.
Both reviews are very positive!

About Eowyn,
Does anyone know what her alias Dernhelm means?

She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

Best of the year!

TORN is reporting that Peter Travers of Rolling Stone names The Lord of the Rings as the best picture of the year!!!

I can't believe it! It may actually live up to the hype!

As a rule of thumb, I don't care about the whole positive/negative thing.

What I'm really interested in is what the complaints, if any, are about.

Variety and Hollywood Reporter, two important trade mags here in the States, have given the movie positive reviews.
Variety in particular goes into details of what the reviewer thought was wrong with the film..although I don't think it will bother fans of the book.
