How does one become a moderator?

I have been on many kinds of boards and I have always wondered...is it by invitation, or what. Also, what are the duties and responsibilities?

I don't know about other boards, but here it's by invitation only. General Mods help the admins out with things like dealing with users who cause problems, etc. Mods of forums like the RPG forum help keep things under control. Mods of the LOTR forums have a good knowledge of Tolkien's work, as well as being trustworthy. We choose ppl to be mods who contribute positively to the Entmoot communitee, show that they are trustworthy, dont' cause problems, and also we just play favorites

We look for people who participate a lot in the forums and spend a lot of time here. I believe all the moderators and admins have been here since at least 2000 (some from '99), although not necessarily on their current user name. (Inoldonil registered under that name in Jan 2001 but was "Lorco Books" dating from July 2000).

They also have at least several hundred posts here.

At the moment we don't really need a new moderator. But stick around, and who knows?

It took me nearly two years and over 1200 posts to become a mod here...but it's usually not like that with everyone else.

I would say that you would have to have read lotr to be a mod, but I have only read 2/3 of lotr, and I'm an admin.

I think I got made a mod then later admin because of 4 reasons:
1. I won the entmoot election

2. I am bmilder's brother.
3. I have been here since '99.
4. The administration likes me.

Super hard to be mod here! Took me almost as long as gdl, so good luck.

Just to bring it back on topic for a second, I became a Mod just because I'm the only one here who likes the Hobbit best and the old Hobbit Mods had vanished (not that I had anythin to do with their vanishing

I wish I could be a Mod, but, of course, no one likes me, and now I am known as a trohblemaker : ( I am upset and no one likes me, so I probably will never become a Mod :-( I might as well leave because I always get a bad reputation on here. I have..nevermind, I won't say anymore or you'll hate me forever : (

If you discussed topics and posted intelligently and didn't pull up old topics for no reason at all - people wouldn't be so upset.

So you solve the problem by dredging up another old thread. That is what caused the problem in the first place, and you're right, you will never become a mod acting that way. Now stop it, or I will take other action.
