V-Bulletin

Soooo. Tell me about this here board here!

We've discussed similar options at the Downs, and I was wondering about this service, cost, duplication of threads, etc.

Howdja do it?

The service is excellent. I would recommend a vBulletin to anyone. The cost is $160, which is a lot compared to ezboard but very fair compared to the other boards.

They also provide import scripts, and can transfer posts from a UBB, ezboard, etc. The only thing is you can't transfer users from an ezboard, which is why everyone needs to re-register.

As I recall from reading somewhere on the Barrow-Downs forum, Ron said your current server doesn't support one of the necessary components of vBulletin... I think it may have been php; so you guys may need to go with UBB, which is also good but I believe more expensive, and I don't know if you can transfer posts to it.

The cost actually isn't much when you consider the fact that it's just a one time payment, and you have control of the board forever afterwords. Also, the Vbulletin ppl and the ppl who host the tolkien trail (f5) are very friendly, and seem to have some sort of partnership which made things much easier.

It seems to be more advanced than UBB. Better user profile and better all-round look and feel.

Question: How does the transfer from UBB/ezboard work?

No idea, the vBulletin guys do it for you. I needed to give them admin access to the site, the ezboard, and the vBulletin for them to do it - they don't give out the script.

...and talk about service!

EDIT: ...and talk about service! Already I am reinstated with full information, posts , tags & title! (Well, I haven't created my tag yet...)
<-------------And they even recreated my image.

Our team is working on the issue of transferring threads and forums. We have another service under consideration in case of an emergency. We would like to get UBB, but it is evidently quite a bit more expensive. It may prove worth it. I'm glad this is working out so well here. You have quite a few members who have transferred. I wonder if EZBOARD cares for this sort of thing!

I don't think it's right for me to comment on ezboard's immature response to our move

yeah, what response?!

They've lost one of their best user board (once a featured board, with interview and all...)

btw... it's nice to be able to disable sigs and pics!

(i don't remember who, but someone once had a sig that could take all the height of my browser!)

Ezboard is good, but it can't compare with a PHP and database-based message-board. vBulletin rules.

BTW, does anyone know the cost of Snowboards?

Hi. vBulliten is one of my favorite board types.

Oh, and Jediguy, you can't buy snowboards. And vb boards are better.

Hello all. vBulletin...how wonderful, you did it at last.

Well, I'm thinking of doing it too...so I hope I can get some experienced advice from Ent administrators

btw, are polls disabled?

So how was the transfer? You have to give them admin access to both this and ezboard? what do they created an account and you make them admins?

Taim

Welcome to the board!

Yes I've disabled polls. I just gave them my ezboard password, and created an admin account for the guy here.

I would recommend vBulletin very highly. Hey wait a second... if your place and Barrow Downs want vBulletin too, we might as well sign up for the vBulletin affiliates program. Once we do that, we would appreciate if you use our affiliate link so we can get a commission!

Apparently if you sign up for the affiliates program and webmasters buy vBulletin using your affiliate links, the original webmaster(s) (us ) get a commission on the sale.

There is no extra charge or anything to you, and as it doesn't affect anything in the slightest, it would certainly be very kind of you to do it .

No we wouldn't need any other board. It's on a per-board basis. The Admin Panel is amazing... it's a little confusing at first, but you have a HUGE amount of features.

Anyway, we have started the affiliate program, so if you decide to purchase vBulletin, please use the link on the bottom in the copyright notice. It should have a bunch of funny letters and numbers, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Many thanks in advance, and I hope you do get to buy the vBulletin .
