Solar Storms

Probably this is old news to some of you, but I wanted to send a notice out to all you ents out there, wherever you are: solar storms are due for us in the next couple of days, so we may have some communication problems. I can either post more details for those who are interested, or you can check it out yourself at tlc.discovery.com/tlcpages/sunstorms/sunstorms_main.html

Hope it is a mild one for everybody and we have no problems

Meantime, we'll just keep on riding the storm out, lol

Have a nice evening

Re: Solar Storms

Despite the fact that the internet will almost definately get screwed over this is gonna be awesome. We don't get something like this everyday ya know. Gotta get my hands on one of those lenses you can look at the sun with for my telescope.

Re: Solar Storms

I would dearly love to be in the northern part of the country for this. I am told that the last one (which I believe knocked out power up there for some of you) was just spectacular.

anybody heard of any cool links like the ones they had for the eclipse last year, where you can get realtime data on what is going on? If the auroras put on a good show for us, I just hope that someone posts it on the net for those of us who must be deprived of seeing it

Have a nice day, ya'll

Re: Solar Storms

I saw the most beautifull thing I've ever seen in my life today. I was at work painting on the mural when someone looked up at the sky and said something like "look at that cloud!" We looked up and, right above the cross on a church was a streak of fire in the sky. It was red and yellow at first, glowing like a furnace. Then, as it began to move across the sky green moved up into the cloud. As a bright neon blue the color of flame on a gas stove moved into view the red dissapeared. Finally there was a streak of violet and then just a thin mist flying across the sky. My God, I have never seen anything so awe inspiring in my life!

[editor's note by anduin]...... Like the idiot that I am, I was in the process of editing my post to reflect the mistake that juntel pointed out (which was in and of itself an example of one of those concious mistakes that you warn yourself about before you do it, but do it anyway) when I accidently deleted the entire post. So for the sake of continuity I am barrowing some space from FM to repost my post.

at your service

Okay nevermind.....I messed up even worse trying to fix the mistake. I am not even going to try to explain this.....thank you FM for letting a lunatic into your space.

re: moonbow

I have never seen a rainbow associated with the moon, but I did once see three very awesome rings around the moon one winter night.

Re: re: moonbow

Anduin, I won't ruin your fun by talking about pollutions role in what you saw
I once saw a rainbow literaly end in a neighbors yard. I know that's really weird, cause I know that rainbows end at a pot of gold, but the neighbors must be rich. Seriously, the rainbow looked real near our house and as we drove home it stopped right in the grass in the neighbors yard.

Re: re: moonbow

Very interesting. I've never seen anything like that myself. Some interestingly colored clouds at sunset, but not much else.

Re: re: moonbow

Tater, do you know why rainbows appear? And it's not because God put them there as a promise that the world would never again be destroyed by flood.
