DVD/CD burning problems

In attempting to first burn a back-up onto a DVD-RW where I already had finished files the burning program warned me of potentially owerwriting the already finished files instead of just adding the one file I wanted to back-up.

On attempting to burn a finished file onto a CD-R where I also had other finished files there was no warning but the CD was ejected from the burner.

Does that mean I can't make a back-up copy of a worked on file? Or add a finished file to a disc that already contains finished files?

How do I go about either backuping worked-upon files or saving finished files onto discs?

The software will automatically check for data on the disc. If there is data, the warning will be issued regardless of whether the existing files share the names of the new files or not.

CD-Rs can only be written to once.

You can. Use a blank CD-R, or a blank DVD+/-R, or (for a disc that you intend to write to on multiple occasions) use a used/blank CD-RW, or a used/blank DVD-RW.

See above. What software are you using?

As this is a technical issue, it is being moved into that forum.

It is called Roxio Easy Media Creator . Thanks for all info.

I did get a USB-memory (256 mb) stick today so backing up the files won't be problem anymore. But I will most probably burn the files when they are finished anyway.
