Dwarves - A Closer Look

We all know the story, Aulë wanted to create his own race to live in the world they created, moulded and skilled in his works. However, this was a mistake wasnt it? - he did'nt have the power to do this and the Ilúvatar were greatly disgusted with their creation!

My question is, why did the Ilúvatar let them survive? And how did they decide:

"when the time comes"

The above quote refering to when the Dwarves would awake from their sleep, and unleash their skills upon the world. What is also interesting is how they 'sprung' into the world. When they first came to be, there wasnt any settlments as such, just a few citadels built into the mountains dotted about Beleriand. What led on from here? How did they get involved with the lives of the other races around them? - They couldnt keep themselves to themselves forever!

What also puzzles me that despite the shaky creation they suffered, they seem to have a better living than that of men. I have never understood why this is. Over men, they have longer mortality, and are blessed with skills nearly worthy of the Elves. Has anyone got any views on my questions?

Sez you! I'm sure they're very attractive to Dwarf men, and that's all the matters. Besides, given how few of them there are, the guys can't be all that choosy.

I thought Men came from the East? This still implies that Eru created them, he just didn't let anyone else know.

I think Aule did a good job at creating them, which is why they are good at living and madly skilled. But should this thread not merge with the other "dwarves" thread?
