it's the weirdest Olympic mascot I've come across....but then I tend to wipe out those things.

Looks orange to me. They kinda look like Anime versions of the Tella Tubbies(I probably spelled that wrong but I don't watch them). Freaky looking characters indeed.

Edit=changed freaking to freaky *smacks forehead*

I'm not pleased they included " Tibetan Antelope" when they're opressing that country in every way possible.
But then I don't like their all inclusive attempt at a mascot anyway.

From your link page

Each of the Friendlies has a rhyming two-syllable name--a traditional way of expressing affection for children in China. Beibei is the Fish, Jingjing is the Panda, Huanhuan is the Olympic Flame, Yingying is the Tibetan Antelope and Nini is the Swallow.

When you put their names together--Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni--they say "Welcome to Beijing," offering a warm invitation that reflects the mission of the Five Friendlies as young ambassadors for the Olympic Games

now why doesn't this surprise me

Are there going to be people dressed in " anime carebear" costumes walking around at the Olympics? If so, they may scare alot of the children running around. It's cool that all their names tie in to say "Welcome to Beijing" but they could have came up with a better idea for the mascots, IMO.

These mascots look like they belong in a Stephen King movie. I don't know why these innocent if slightly odd mascots creeped me out a little bit.

Maybe I just look at too much weird stuff on the internet.

The concept of the Olympic flame plus the four elements is interesting though. (Not good mascot interesting, but interesting nonetheless.)

However, I probably shouldn't be too harsh just incase Vancouver has something dumb for a mascot.

Those things are definitely the stuff of nightmares. I agree with Spock about the Tibetan antelope being used like that; China has been treating Tibet worse than dogsh** for centuries, and still does, so they've no right to use their animal like that. And the name alone is straight out of a horror flick - I mean, the Friendlies?? *Shudders*

I agree with you guys about the Tibetan antelope.

I have a feeling that "Friendlies" is one of those things that doesn't translate between Chinese and English very well. It's probably much cooler in Chinese.

Then again, I'm sure whoever thought of the name speaks English too.

I hope their games get a much better reception than their mascots!
