Help!!!! Anyone who speaks elvish...
Can anyone tell me how to say something in either of the elvish languages.
I'm trying to teach myself but i need some help.

Melmë 'love' is a noun however, and you want a verbal expression with 'I love' ... Tolkien actually wrote something in this vein (albeit a bit 'early', see Lost Road) with: Atarinya tye-meláne 'My father, I love thee' and A yonya inye tye-méla "And I too, my son, I love thee"
According to David Salo (language expert hired for the film) the 'updated' form of the first example might go: tye-mélan (The second Tolkien example contains the theoried to be 'emphatic' ind. pr. inye 'I' with emphasis). My suggestion would be to use mélan 'I love' and copying Tolkien with David Salo's update, we might get: tye-mélan 'I love you' My suggestion at least, based on current info and current opinion from the experts. ¤ Last edited by cian : 02-10-2003 at 08:52 AM. |
