National Geographic FotR thing
I just saw the National Geographic 'Behind the Movie' FotR show. It was ok, a lot of stuff about Tokien and his experiences in the World Wars, and some interesting stuff about Finnish, but I didn't think it actually told you anything particularly about FotR. It was kind of stuck between a biography and speculative parallels between LotR and Tolkien's life. Has anyone else seen it? Just wondering what the rest of the 'moot thought.

Someone already did this, http://entmoot.tolkientrail.com/show...&threadid=3950 . Try using search. (I am sounding like a Mod, scary.)

I am a Liv Tyler fan and might buy the thing just to see a little more of her.
However, the National Geographic biography of Tolkien is very uninformative. Whoever did the research for that show didn't delve very far, and they really overemphasized minor influences on Tolkien's works to the exclusion of some of the major influences. It's just a big commercial for the movies. Nothing more. |

PBS did a really good special on Tolkien a few years back, narrated by Judie Dench. Definately worth finding.

If it was the biography I have on videotape, they didn't do it so much as they acquired broadcast rights for it. The video, two hours in its full length, was done in the UK as part of the 1992 Tolkien Centenniel. We showed it at Dragoncon last year and the year before. People loved it. It's virtually impossible to find in the United States.

Much as I enjoyed seeing the Wookie homeworld, and the introduction of Boba Fett, I feel I must reluctantly decline.
But thank you for your most equitable offer nonetheless. |
