Re: Who is more powerful Wizard pf Elf-Lord

I don't think we can compare them

As a Maia he is far more powerfull than any Elf who ever exist
True he left most of his power behind him when he became an Istari but he still manage to slay the Balrog
We must keep in mind that he was send to take an active role agains't Sauron, to balance his evilness

On the other hand the Elf-Lord were mostly pascifist, defender and healer. They carrie immense power and manage to cloud their presence in a way that even Sauron can't detect them.

Since their power is that much different we can,t compare them

If you want to know who is the more powerfull in battle turn to Gandalf

I recall something about gandalf leaving some of his strength behind.

Does anyone know were it was said.

For my following examples I'm using the uber-balrogs of the final rendition

Gandalf battled the balrog for days ( I don't recall how many)
and Died ( hell I think everyone that fought one died)

Gandalf is a Maia and powerful; however, when awakened in their wrath there was a power in "GREATEST" of the Elves that was tremendous

feanor pierced Melkors' mind and slammed his door in the face of the god of evil

It is said that feanor was the greatest of all the children of eru and that he COULD have accomplished things that even the Valar could not

the Sil even mentions that the Noldor surpassed the ainur in many things

Fingolfin wounded the god of evil with seven wounds that NEVER healed

it took several balrogs to mortally wound feanor

Two to take fingon

ecthelion and glorfindel killed balrogs also

Earendil was half elven and slew a dragon

I would say that the GREATEST of the Calaquendi were equal to

at least Gandalf and Saruman, we don't know much about the blue wizard and radagast does not seem powerful at all

About Eowyn,
Does anyone know what her alias Dernhelm means?

She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

I would like to add that being powerful in terms of talents is one thing; being able to win is another.

In battle, luck, foreknowledge and strategy play an important part.

One obvious example is Sauron's defeat. It turned out to be similar to a chess-game with the pawn being able to check-mate the king in the end.

Another is the Morgul King being made careless due to a prophecy (cannot be killed by any man).
