Need a little help with Quenya
I'm working on making a translation of a particular quote into Quenya.... and it's not going very well, cos I havent had the time to read all the course material
Here's the quote: "If anger is a gift, then I have been blessed( or "then my gift is great.)" So far, all I've managed to cobble together is If "arwa-anger" na anna(,) then annamya na alta. Please tell me if my understanding of how it all goes together is totally out of whack, and translations of If, Then, and Anger in the above context. Thanks. feel free to email me responses at methuselah_999@hotmail.com |

I recommend this source. It may take you some time to research enough to be able to write your sentence, but it will help you.

This is the attempt of someone who's only on lesson five:
Nai aha ná anna, haryanyë alta aman. (should be literally "Be it that rage is a gift, I have great blessings.") Anybody who spots a mistake in this please tell me . . . I can only get better . . .

'I have' should be 'haryanye'. And 'I have been' should be like 'annaienye' or something. The word 'to be' is very strange when coming to changing.

Not at all. I'm also a newbie to Quenya.
Anyway, it's good to see that many people are studying Quenya and becoming better and better everyday.

I really need help with Quenya pronunciation. (I'm only pn lesson 1 and it is so difficult. How do you pronounce the letters with the umlouts above them?

Umleuts are not pronounced differently. They just indicate that this letter is pronounced separately.
I.E. you see 'ie', you may pronounce it like in German, getting 'ee' sound. BUT, if you see 'ie' with an umleut above 'e', you must pronounce 'i-e', two sounds.

I believe that anger is ruth (aranruth) and man (manwe, aman) is blessed.
Those are both used by Noldor, so I'd think they're quenya. Could be sindarin, though. Well... I'm pretty sure that Man is Quenyan... But I guess Ruth is sindarin.

I too have a Quenya question. . .
I want to say "dark-star" or "shadow-star." Would that be 'mor-elen?' Or am I completely (or partly, or at all) wrong?

Depends on what kind of star you're looking for. The word for an actual star in space is 'elen', the 'poetic' word for star is 'él'. There is also 'tinwe': 'spark', but this is properly only used of the lights in the Dome of Varda on Taniquetil. She made a dome of lights in imitation of the heavens. The adjectives you need here are morë 'dark, darkness' and morna 'dark, black'. 'Mor' is Sindarin.
Moriél might be a good name meaning "Dark-star".

Thank you so much Nolendil!! That was really helpful! Thanks!
It's for a film I'm making. . .and being an obsessed Tolkien fan, the main character is an obsessed Tolkien fan. . .she's also a vampire, but that's beside the point. Anyway, thanks for the help with the Quenya. You probably didn't need all those details about my wierd films.

weird films are, by definition, cool films (especially if they include one or more of the following elements:anything Tolkien, vampires, sci-fi special effects, or aliens)...except for the really truly weird films that are quite definitely not cool.
