*sob* Rotten computer deleted my post yesteday. Umëa!
Ah, well. Here, I wrote it again.

Fëalómë stared at her reflection, and she felt a half-fear twist through her heart at the sight of the stranger she saw. She looked and felt wild and dangerous, crowned in silver-white fire and gems of shadow. She felt powerful; and yet as she took in the new image of herself she realized that there was something missing, something imcomplete.
As she reached up to brush a lock of reddish hair away from her face, she caught a glimpse of something shining in the mirror. Understanding, Fëalómë tore the chain from her neck, snapping the tiny links and letting them clatter and fall to the ground in a pool of wire. She held up the Ring; and felt faintly how complete her power could be.
Fëalómë set the Ring upon her finger.
The first thing that crossed her mind was that her reflection in the mirror did not waver in the slightest; and she was still visible. She was confused for a moment, and then brushed it aside, for she felt something other than her image weaken. Then she was caught up in a surge of power, under a will stronger than her own.
It is mine, she thought slowly and idly, mine! I alone can weild this power. It's mine, this Ring.
She reminded herself vaguely of Frodo's words in Orodruin as he claimed the Ring, as she echoed them to herself, but she laughed slightly, mirthlessly though, at the thought. Who did that halfling think he was? He had no right to claim it. It was Sauron's then; but I've forged this Ring now, and it is mine! I alone can use it . . . I will use it . . . .

NO! cried another part of her mind suddenly, and Fëalómë found somewhere the strength to pull the Ring from her finger. But she slipped, and the Ring flew into the air, landing on her desk, bouncing once or twice and falling to the floor. Involuntarily Fëalómë bent in panic to make sure no harm had come to it, and then, once she was certain, she felt tears come to her eyes for her lack of will. It's controlling me, already, she thought.
And as well as sadness she thought this with rage blazing that some piece of gold was controlling her. "I only wanted something perfect!" Fëalómë cried. "Not this!"
Taking off her crown and letting it clatter for a second time to the floor, Fëalómë ran to her door and outside into the streets, trying frantically to get as far away from herself as she could.
She didn't stop running until she reached the park near the center of town, and when she did she collapsed on a bench into hysterical, angry, terrified tears.
"No," she repeated over and over, "ava carë nin. Don't do this to me. Hecalyë. Olorinyë. Please let me be dreaming! Ava . . . no!" But to her dismay she found pinching herself in the arm hurt a great deal, mostly because of her sliced fingers, and she hadn't woken up from her nightmare.
Finally she calmed down enough to wipe her eyes dry with the back of her hands and try to figure out what she could do.
What would Sauron do now? she wondered, and then, No!
"I'm not Sauron, I'm not like him, and I won't be. I won't ever be!" she cried indignantly, angry that her thoughts even without the Ring were rebelling against her.
And then, quieter now, she whispered, "Never."
I hope, her mind added treacherously. Only hope.
*****
Night had fallen in its velvet cloak by the time Fëalómë left the park to walk back to her shop and house. The stars were shining merrily above her, and she smiled in spite of herself at their light.
"A Elbereth Gilthoniel," she said softly. "O Elbereth who lit the stars . . . help me."

Upon her return, Fëalómë picked up both her silver crown and the Ring and stowed them away in a little box in her closet. Nothing will happen to them, she assured the part of her mind that wailed in anguish at the thought of being far from the Ring for any amount of time. They'll be safer there than they would near me.
And yet . . . in five minutes she found herself digging through her closet ot check on the Ring. Just this once, she said as an excuse, just this once.
It was several "just this once" incidents later that she realized it wasn't going to work.

I turned to the Maia and showed him what it was I was writing. "I'm setting it down, so we will remember later." I replied.

I looked around. "When shall we depart for the Bay of Belfalas?" I asked. Then, I wrote :Our company is large. Vasir, myself, Starletta, Primrose, I looked up, trying to recall the names of the others.

"Liat, Fran, and Lubyla." Added Fran, seeing what she was writing. "Though if you want to record real names, it would be Liat Brandybuck, Belladona Gamgee, and Lubyla Greenleaf."

"Yes, Iam Lubyla." I sounded a bit down. I knew what haunted Starletta at the world gate. Part of it haunted me too.

"Thank you!" I added, Liat, Fran and Lubyla. We are journeying to the Bay of Belfalas, to the World Gate. The prophecies will be fulfilled. I closed the book. "When do we leave?'

A soft purring was herd in the trees, as a huge panther emerged, knocking Starletta to the ground.

Seeing the dead panther, "I'm not going to note that." I looked around again. "Well, can we leave now?"

ooc:You cant kill the panther!!!!! Thats Illali, the panther companion of Starletta, who only Starletta can understand.

The panther stood back up . 'Starletta, why did you let them try to kill me?'

I ran over and hugged the panther. "Why did you try to kill her? I'm sorry Illali, it seems you were a bit too sly."

OOC:*cough* Fëalómë's making what I lack the skill to do; I'm a jeweler myself, but only by hobby, not trade. I'm pretty good, especially for a twelve-year-old playing with wire and beads, but I lack the supplies and most likely skill to make what Fëalómë does. That's why I describe her jewelry so much. It's the images in my mind that'll probably never take shape under my pliers. Depressing.

IC:
Later, with a certain silver chain restored about her neck bearing a certain golden 'pendant,' Fëalómë sat at her worktable, ignoring as usual the pain in her fingers. She was making a ring of a coiled gold wire band pulled together at the base and set across the top with broken pieces of tourmaline crystals left over from a past project. She felt frustrated with her creation, wanting the stones not to stick out so much, but she kept fiddling and adding and changing things around until the coiled band had been traced with a black-dyed copper wire in a flowered spiral, hiding the settings and adding . . . enough.
It gave it soul, Fëalómë thought, not like the Ring but all the same . . . .
And as she remembered the Ring that she had been trying so hard to forget, tears welled up in her eyes and splashed down onto her new creation. She dried it off gently but in vain; she only cried all the harder as if in a trance she lifted the chain and the Ring up to her eye level. Her fingers traced the edge of it and she felt an odd tugging in her chest, a kind of ache that made her feel like a little child woken from a nightmare who wanted nothing but a parent's hug and smiling face.
The Ring slipped from her hand as she drooped slightly, dangling still around her neck, looking to her half mocking and half sympathetic. She kept thinking of how the light played across its surface in a wild dance, fiery and free. Beautiful.
You could be like that, whispered her mind. Why not?
And why not? To be beautiful like that, a kind of terrible beautiful, didn't mean she would attempt any kind of world domination, did it? It didn't mean she would kill anyone, or start any wars.
Careful, cautioned the other half of her mind. Be careful.
I will, she promised. I will.
She held the ring she had just made up to her light. "You need a name," she said aloud. "And a purpose."

"I dont know, she scared you the first time."

<Don't worry, Cyrell. We'll both go,> said Primrose, startled at the surge of panic she felt at the very thought of leaving her companion behind, while going to another world.

Cyrell relaxed. <Good.>
Maybe creating a mindlink wasn't the best of ideas. Fran warned me... but I didn't listen. I never listened at that age.
Still, he had had his reasons, and the Link had proved very useful. He only hoped it would not be their undoing.

"Okay, so we have another added name." Artuile wrote, We now have a panther joining, Illali. I closed the book. "Now-" Just then, a horse and rider galloped up, and a young elven girl dismounted.

"Aiya, elendili ar elda." Astarien said cheerfully.

Artuile started. She beckoned Astarien aside. "What are you doing here?" she hissed.

"I am here, because Father asked me to accompany you." She said. "He told me to protect you, because you bear...the ring of Imladris." She explained.

Artuile sighed. "Since Lord Elrond wishes it, I must accept." I turned to the others. "Excuse me, but Astarien will be joining us." I told them. "She is here by order of Lord Elrond."

Astarien smiled. "Mae Govannen."
