hmmm, not to bad then. When I climbed "the wild blue goose pagoda" in Shanghai it was something like 660 steps and I thought I'd die.

Ha ha! My children climbed up there too, and my youngest one is only 4. So I think you'll be OK

That's what kept me going. There and in other places where I about collapsed, I'd see these tiny tots in their little uniforms, tramping back down the steps I was having so much difficulty with. It just humiliated me to go on.

I visited Corsica in 2002. Lovely island, I'd like to return someday.
Eärniel, those cliffs of Bonifacio look exactly as I remember them.

That's one of my favorite albums. It was pretty close to the real thing too.

Corsica is an island one does not forget lightly. Where have you been besides Bonifacio? Have you stayed on the south coast or have you been to the north coast as well? We've always been staying at the south-coast.

Actually we stayed on the east coast. We rented a car and drove around the whole island so we made brief visits basically everywhere - Porto-Vecchio, Ajaccio, Calvi, Bastia... However Bonifacio is the city I remember the most. We were supposed to make a boat-tour into the caves in the white cliffs but sadly, we missed the boat . But that gave us time to closely examine the cliffs from land.

I also remember the huge yachts in the Bonifacio harbour. They were gargantuan! Probably had their own area code

The Corsican food is reason enough to visit the island. I've never had such tasty Mediterranian dinners. Seafood rocks.

We only stayed a week. Eärniel, how long did you stay?

Calvi! I can't remember ever being there, it's higher up and on the other side of where we usually go. But I know Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio well. Ajaccio I know less since it's a 3 hour drive from where we usually stay and we only go there when we arrive on the ferry or return home.

I've been on one of those boat trips to the chalk cliffs, quite a few years ago. It was very interesting although not as interesting as that boat trip with a glass bottom. That was a real thrill but the next year they didn't offer those trips anymore.

Oh yes, those huge yachts! We like watching them from the stair to the citadel of Bonifacio. Some look like driving villas! It's always fun to see what they're called and where they're from. It's sometimes also fun to see the people on those boats, they sometimes act so posh it's funny.

We always stay in a bungalow park some 20 kilometers from Porto-Vecchio. Corsica has been our holiday destination for over 25 years, ever since my parents' honeymoon there enchanted them. It's the only holiday we take in a year but then we also go for 3 weeks. So I've seen plenty of southern Corsica by now but it still doesn't bore me. Those great starry nights, the smell of maquis... Surely you've made at least one trip to the inland and smelled the maquis. I love that smell!

I thought I'd resurrect this thread, because I'm going to be gone for awhile this summer. We're taking an almost 4-week driving/camping trip, from July 27 to Aug 21, so that's where I'll be if anyone is wondering We're going to the western national parks, like Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Mt. Rushmore, etc. I haven't been able to post much at ALL this summer - this has been the busiest summer ever!!!!! So I think I'll pretty much take the summer off of posting, and be back in the fall

Anyone else taking a trip?

Recently back from 10 days abroad. Totally worth it but totally exhausting. Now I need a year without a vacation to rest up.

I'm taking a vacation; a week of discernment in a monastery. Not the monastery I want to go to, though.

I'll be going to Laughlin for a few days, where it looks as though we'll be coming home and leaving like the next day for Laughlin. Wierd.
Also going to Orlando in August.

A monastery for one and Mouseland for another; we certainly have a diverse group here on the MOOT.
