The "real" people in your life should have priority, but I really see the Mooters as "real", too. And I know of several that talk on the phone frequently, and get together when they're in town.

(and Lizra, you haven't seen me, but you've heard me before! )
I should have been warned on forehand, am currently member of about 9-10 Foruma.

Yes, I have heard you Rian, and also sent touchable mail to Elvet and Azalea. One mesaage board I cut from my list was strange (to me) ...a local one. Here, the people had this "online community" that they then carried over into the local music scene. Different protocol for posting with people who you might easily meet, or know someone they know etc. Tricky! Funny how complicated things can get!

Lol. I think that was in response to CBG and Tater badmouthing newbies, and how annoying they were, and of course all of the 'newbies', myself included, were all getting annoyed about it. I remember Strawberry Icecream basically leaving because of it.

Was there something in particular that triggered this? Did it have to do with the impending release of 'The Fellowship of the Ring' in another four months,... or was there an article about the site,... or new links established,... or a particular Michael Martinez article... or did something else happen then??
That was around the time they moved over from ez-board.

Yes, and wasn't that about the time the big Burger King promotion was going on and people were joining to buy and trade items? IIRC that promotion was that summer before the release of the first movie.

Yes, something like that. Newbies that joined in the few months after the release of the first film were by some regarded as only-movie-fans and a bit like second-rate mooters. There were quite a few squabbles over it in that time IIRC.

I remember Strawberry Icecream was rather upset about it but didn't she leave later when Took Talk opened?

I suspected that! When I joined, I was carefull to emphasise that I read the books quickly to avoid having them spoiled by the movies, for just that reason. My first few posts were all along the lines of "Don't eat me; I read 'em first on purpose!" I also remember adding the Tom Bombadil icon to every single post for a while. Stupid newbie.

I'm on Took Talk too, and I'm trying to stick with it until it gets close to Entmoot's glory. But it doesn't look like it'll ever be able to compare. And I don't think Strawberry Icecream joined, or at least she didn't come back after it crashed over a year ago.

Yeah, she left after the crash. Like many others...

My cousin told my sister about the site, and my sister told me. I joined after the movies, but proud to say I read the books before the movie. (my cousin's name is Andustar, my sister's Elbereth Gilthoniel.)
I rememebr putting the icon of the wizard in every post. Hmmm... and my spelling + grammer were awful, IIRC. (I read my first posts, they're terrible )

Yeah, you had really bad grammar. Now it's perfect, though. Who says mooting isn't good for you?

Hey, I failed my Spanish mid-term. *shrugs* You're perfect compared to me with foreign languages.

That's ok. (and from some reason I can't rmember anyone laughing at me... weird)
Oh, no, not perfect... Really, my English is not close to be perfect. I have problems with pronouncing words. (beard-bird, tear-tear, etc.)

I think we need to get back to the topic though... whatever it was.

Oh yeah, this is the moot. The goold old moot. I thought for a minute that the topic was 'good memories at TT'.

I recently started lurking through the archives, and thinking, I'd better stay here, because I don't want to miss any more of that. I feel bad that I couldn't have joined earlier. Bmilder, you made the most fun site on the net.

Nehheh, I did that too, but I used the gollum-icon. I loved those ears.

God! Time does fly.
I’ve been here since 8//2001. Haven’t posted much, (or better put, I'm not an hasty poster), but, never quitted either. There is always something that makes me post again, and a lot of friendly faces,(or should I say avatars?)

I just always tried to pretend like they were talking about someone else. But really...drat it all, I do have Jackson to thank for something. If he hadn't made a movie, I wouldn't have gone looking for Tolkien on the internet.
