Busy with work, last time I talked to him. And looking forward to the John Adams mini-series. He loves the history of the founding fathers.

Indiana's better!

I think what a lot of Europeans don't realize is that most of our states are bigger than your countries... And with the expansion of the EU, they're also becoming more and more similar politically...

In such political systems, it's matters more what party you vote for than what person you vote into office. It's the other way around in America. Considering how much power is concentrated to the US president compared to a European Prime minister, it's not that strange (although a prime minister can still be very powerful). I wouldn't say the one or the other is more or less democratic per se, they're just different systems and have their strengths and weaknesses depending on which perspective you have when comparing them.

Here the date is fixed - parlamentary elections are held the third Sunday in September every fourth year.

The size is not what's so surprising, it's the fact that you've got this humungous states with even less people in it than our biggest province or so.

I suppose much of the confusion and the overlooking from state-importance here in Europe comes from the fact that you do far more things as the whole USA than as the individual states. Take the Olympics, for starters. There's one giant delegation from the USA, whereas the EU-countries still go seperately.

This is a truly strange campaign video:

http://www.johnmccain.com/service/day2_webvideo.htm
John McCain: Courageous Service - Experienced Leadership - Bold Solutions

What's with the Headless Rock Star?

Did somebody tell him, "hey the kids really go for that crazy rock'n'roll stuff, so we'd better put one in there so we look like hepcats"?

And what's with the swirling smoke?

And the message "you should rat out your friends to the principal" Will that go over real well?

Not to mention the sepia tones makes it look like something dug up from the Civil War era.
