Well, I'm not gonna talk about LT behind her back.

But from personal experience, yeah it is bleedin' hard when your opinion is in the minority.........I don't think that justifies a "shut up or get out" attitude tho', do you?

Remember, a lot of great changes in the world have been started from a small minority of people (Pera Stroika (s/p?) in the USSR for example).......opinions change all the time and I'm sure like all countries America is evolving over the decades.....in 20 yrs time it may have changed so much that you hate the place *shrugs*

I know, I'm sure the people who hate America also know that they can leave any time........maybe they would just like to see America change into a country they do like.

I didn't tell her to "shut up" I told her that if she HATED it so much she could leave.

If I end up hating the country I would leave.

When I was in high school all I wanted to do was move to England. I went there - and decided - "great place to visit - but I don't I don't want to live here anymore"

My cousins repeatedly said they hated New Jersey and how they were going to leave as soon as they could - until I showed them other places around the country. Now they realise that the grass isn't greener on the other side and life isn't perfect across the border.

But maybe the majority of people don't WANT the country to change the way they want it to. And don't forget the Constitution. I've come into contact with people who seem to think we should just throw that out - when it's the entire basis for our government.

Wow! That surprises me jerseydevil

I really thought you'd be the kind that would stick around and fight for what you believed in!

Gonna get pretty packed in Utopia

Still, I can't really argue about the state of the States, as I've never lived there and don't really care about the place anyway.

Got better things to do

I would - but if I downright hated the country - why should I stay here? There is a difference when you hate something - but I guess you can't see the difference.

Who ever said I would be looking for utopia, but if America was completely unsalvageable and I didn't believe in it anymore - I would leave.

For someone who doesn't really care about the place - you have a lot of opinions about it.

Yeah, but that's just idle chit-chat (I mean, c'mon this is a Tolkien message board, not a political forum, I can count the number of political debators on both hands here......Don't you all go to political forums when ya want to discuss politics in-depth?)

Actually this is one of the few boards I have time for. And before Tolkien Trail I had never really been to a MessageBoard.

Also - just because this is a Tolkien board does not mean that it can't contain interesting political discussions.

Don't worry about that.

Very wise choice in boards, JD!

Oops, I was worried I'd come over that way (and if I'd been a bit quicker I would've edited my last post)..........There are, of course, some excellent political debators here.........but eventually it boils down the same few people having the same circular argument, still interesting arguments........but for me they get a little stale after a while.

Yer should make a bit o' time and have an explore of the political boards JD.......I've a feeling yer'd really enjoy 'em (a board I use to visit has an entire forum solely based on the Iraq conflict...that is just amazing).

Yes - I agree that it is generally the same people - but then others join Entmoot and we get other people.

Thanks. I've looked at other boards - and posted on various ones. But never really had much time to stick with them.

What is the board that deals solely with the Iraq conflict?

LT, pardon me for not believing that you are 98% more intelligent than your peers, but anyone that would post a thread, saying someone was in their house for attention, just can't be quite with it.

Here is something that I heard on the news that I would like to share with everyone.

Quote:
It's the soldier that we have to thank for freedom of speech, not the poet.

It's the soldier we have to thank for freedom of press, not the journalist.

It's the soldier that we have to thank for freedom of religion, not the pastor.

Without the brave, there is no land of the free.

Sister- Nope, Blair is on the Us's side, not the majority of Britain....

But to the first post, It's quote ridiculous to boycott France and Germany, where would the bratwersts come from eh?

If people don't like their country they should try to change it, but they will mostly try in vain if they are the minority. Not only this, but governments don't change for everyone, if government wanted country-wide popularity, they'd be holdin' their breath for a long time...You can't please everyone, and if the gripers don't understand that...then perhaps they should leave if it's so bad. Move to Iraq--where everything is peachy.....

Sorry if this has already been brought up..

Actually latest polls that came out of BBC this weekend say that the number in support in England has jumped to 59%. Just because a lot of people are protesting - doesn't mean that that is how the majority feel.
