You see? I knew this would happen.

I was supposed to hit the gym on the 1st of Feb. I went for the first time tonight. That's at least eighteen days that I could not gather enough motivation, even after launching this thread

I took it easy, though. Very easy. But it doesn't matter how strenuous the workout was, I'm still going to be in pain for the next week or two. Tonights workout was:
  • circuit at 60%
  • cycling 10 minutes @ 50%
  • 1 x set of 10 reps 12kg bicep curls
  • 1 x set of 10 reps 15 kg bicep curls
  • 1 x set of 10 reps 40kg leg extensions.
  • some other exercises that I would not be able to correctly name at the moment
The workout lasted less than an hour. A conversation with an ex-co-worker added on about five minutes, so that must have been the shortest workout I've ever had.

I have made no changes to my diet, since pies are so yummy. I have had no cheesecake, though. That takes willpower.

Anyway, I still haven't had my assessment. Lazy bugger. Oh, and I should be posting some "before" pics next w/e.

I've been to a gym once in my life. Ran approx 6 miles on the treadmill before they kicked me off. But that was in the middle of th summer. Now . . . winter . . . bah.
THE GYM, the Torture Chamber, is not a very big room. But every F period we must run around it ten times, do twenty-five pushups . . . well, you get the idea. I feel so pathatic, though; I'm a cross-country runner adn yet every winter I get so badly out of shape that I can't run the damn ten laps without losing breath and generally dropping dead. We're talking maybe a half a mile-ish. How sad? V. sad.

If I could find time in between working at the barn, violin, riding my horse, homework, school and actual me time, I'd probably be at a gym regularly. As it is, I barely have time for all my homework.

Tuesday's workout:
  • Circuit @ 60%
  • 10 minutes cycling @ 70%
  • 1 set of 10 narrow-grip pull-ups
  • 1 set of 5 wide-grip pull-ups (ouch ouch ouch)
  • 2 sets of 10 reps of 15kg bicep curls
  • 5 sets of 10 reps on the fixed "rowing" machine, each set a higher intensity, until last set on max (woohoo!)
Wednesday's workout:
  • 10 minutes cycling @ 75%
  • 5 minutes treadmill @ 80%
As you can see, I was too sore to do anything properly yesterday. Tonight I'm working late, and tomorrow night I'm going to be too drunk to lift weights.

Apparently they don't offer assessments at my gym (which is a smallish branch), but I'm joining a new medical aid as from next month, which will give me access to the flagship clubs, and therefore, assessments. Yay!

Next session: Saturday, if I wake up in time.

I'm playing softball this year, so when its raining or something we have to go in the weight room. Sometimes we have to share with the football players though I can bench press the whole bar.

We do 50 situps/50 pushups plus whatever we have to do in gym class.

Another thing we do is our ABCs. No we dont sing. You pick up the weight and draw each letter in the air.

Im usually the laughing stock of the weight room though. Oh well.

Heh, I bought myself a chin-up bar today

I managed 12 narrow grip pull-up
and only 7 wide grip

Methinks it's time I started to put a little more weight on the barbell

Today was quite weird. When I woke up, I had the symptoms of the flu (as I normally get it): blinding headache, sore everywhere, cold shivers, sweating, nausea and a sore throat. By 10am I was fine.

Anyway, I had a much better workout today. I'll try to remember what I did...

Bicep curls
  • 1 set 8 reps 10kg
  • 1 set 8 reps 14kg
  • 3 sets 8 reps 15kg
  • 2 sets 20kg
Stationary rowing machine
  • 1 set 8 reps 60 pound
  • 1 set 8 reps 75 pounds
  • 1 set 8 reps 105 pounds (max)
Cycling = 15 minutes 80%

Standing calf raises
  • 1 sets 10 reps 70 pounds
  • 1 set 8 reps 90 pounds.
Seated chest compressions
  • 1 set 8 reps 50 pounds
  • 1 set 6 reps 60 pounds
Pull-ups = 12 reps narrow-grip (two sets total at end of session)

Overall this workout lasted about 45 minutes. I'm still light years away from my normal 90 minute workouts. I should be in pain for the next two days.

On Monday I did a couple sets of an excercise that I can't quite describe at the moment, but my back and shoulders have been killing me.

So I had a workout today, but it was limited to legs:

15min cycling 70%

5min treadmill 70%

Leg extensions
  • 8 reps 40 pounds
  • 8 reps 50 pounds
  • 8 reps 60 pounds
  • 8 reps 70 pounds
  • 8 reps 80 pounds
  • 8 reps 90 pounds
  • 8 reps 105 pounds (max)
Leg press = 3 sets 8 reps 162.5kg

Standing calf-raises
  • 8 reps 50 pounds
  • 8 reps 80 pounds
  • 8 reps 100 pounds
  • 8 reps 125 pounds
  • 8 reps 150 pounds (max)
That should be sufficient for a week of pain.

As some of you may have noticed, my workouts thus far have lacked a common structure. This is merely because I'm just getting back into the gym experience, and I need to see where I stand in relation to all of these exercises. I'll set some workout goals at the end of March.
