There are way too many general boards online. Can't you go there for general and come here to discuss Tolkien?

The point of General isn't that your talking about general things, it's that your talking about general things with the other mooters.

Yeah, what makes the entmoot GM different from other general boards is the people you meet here (a lot sure are witty and weird, in a way I like).

I guess that if this GM is closed, I'll just drift towards Crossroads of Arda more often like what A-E said for the non-tolkien-related posts.

I'll quote myself.

Quote:
Leave, which I don't really want to do, because every other mb I've been to hasn't been as well organized, kept up, and frequented as this one.

Don't worry, nothing will be done unless the administration is unanimous, and my current feeling is pro-GM...

I won't leave, I'll just post somewhere where many mooters congregate to post on topics that might not know a place here. What's great with OS's these days is that you can be connected to several URL's at once.

BTW, if GM is closed, I'm seeing the Entertainment and General Lit Sections getting heavier traffic; and possibly more spamming.

Happy pondering and deciding...

Hobbit I think you misunderstood

we can jump to crossroads to discuss things that you would block here

whats this talk of loyality? couldn't it be said that we are all here for fun " in the broad sense" and that you are being unloyal to the mooters by closing down a section that we like.

aside from the admin has there been complaints from mooters about spamming

Closing the GM. changing the number of post.

Its your board yes. But why did you create a gm thread and number of post t in the 1st place?

There is only so much that one can say about Tolkien. The movies have revitalized interest, but after a time, most discussion will be exhausted. Especially due to our strictly-enforced "redundant thread" policies, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the new or casual Tolkien fan to find anything original or interesting to discuss. Even the seasoned Tolkienites would have to think hard to come up with something never mentioned once in the past 2 and a half years.

For someone who is worn out (at least temporarily) by coming up with more comments on everyone's favorite story, there are two options. One is to leave, and the other is to join the community here in General Messages. I think the latter is preferable, because it keeps the board going. As emplynx said, it's nice to chat with people with similar interests.
Ben, either u put Emplynx name in these two places to Spite me,
or u didnt read the 3rd post in this thread.

No offence to emplynx my good freind,
its just i said this stuff ages ago, and Ben decided to agree with u, rather than me.

btw if we had to shut the GM,
then we could go to TOOK-TALK or Crossroads for general discussions.

hey hobbit maybe it might make better sense with this anology

you open a store that specializes in tolkien goods and you have other things too. After awhile everybody have bought most of your tolkien stuff and start buying other things. people still come to the store to hang out and buy stuff but not as much tolkien.

the owners say hey this is a tolkien speciality store, so we want you to by tolkien stuff.

The constomer says yes but we've bought most of your tolkien stuff we like your store we still wanna come but there's only so much tolkien stock

the owners say it doesn't matter what you think we are gonna close the general goods

the customers say ok we can buy are general goods at other stores

then the customers are called dis-loyal

that's BS

We could, but then I wouldn't feel like I know the other Mooters as well as I do.

Now, Am I still a newbie? When does one become a not so newbie?

In Darth Tater's opinion, a newbie is someone who registered after December 19th. Period. I personally disagree, and think that even recent converts to Tolkien and/or Entmoot can still be valuable additions to the community.

Aldesign, you made nice points too, but I did remember emplynx's analogy while replying. I think afro-elf's analogy is even better.

If you look at boards that allegedly don't have a miscellaneous area, you'll find plenty of unrelated topics in the content forums. There's just no way to stop people from talking about other things without seeming incredibly harsh.
