Arda, of course. Only then the planes would be part of their history...maybe they crash in Arda's ocean, or something...

Oh, stop, really...you're making me blush!

I was working at a garden today in the pouring rain, totally soaked (my hair felt somewhat like Strider's looked like in the movie...stringy and wet!), and I was walking across the muddy lawn and I really felt like that one part when the hobbits were walking into Bree all soaking wet....or maybe when the whole fellowship...I dunno, is there a part when the fellowship is soaked to death? Cause I sure was....

Good question... There was, of course, the snow storm. Other than that, old sauron kicked up a lot of cloud cover, but no rain. I think the ringwraiths would not have enjoyed those conditions. After six months of almost no precip we are finally getting some much needed moisture this week. I'm making a numenorean effort to raise my garden beds. I'm 1/2 done and on hold until the rains end; heavy clay here. What are you planting? I'm waiting for v1 of "Unfinished Tails" to arrive. Entmoot has challenged my recall. Plus I've just finished the sim so i want to link up the stories from LotR. Happy gardening and make Master Samwise proud!

Heh...were were planting leeks. Which for some reason makes me laugh...and then we were weeding grass which was right next to a grassy field...which was a little pointless. I really wish Master Samwise had been there! I think I would have been much more motivated.... And also onions...and then we got to take some home, I put some in my pocket....what has it gots in its pocketses? ONIONSES!
Yay! Precipitation!
And there's another one of us who use tolkien-refrences in everyday speech (like "numenorean" etc).

Planting leeks? Sounds fun. BTW, that word has always made me laugh, too. I suddenly feel like gardening. . .maybe I can do that this summer, in the location of the former "archealogical dig" in my backyard. I wish Sam could help me, though!

I read the Two Towers for the first time while hiking in the Smoky Mountains . . . it was unbelievable, especially because the Smokies are really misty, it was just like living in the book. I was watching for Ents around every bend in the trail.

Leek soup is good.
I wish I lived near more trees. I've seen lots of places that look like Middle-earth pretty close to Seattle, but I live among many houses and few trees. But there's this park near my house, and above it are stairs, going up the hill. One time I was climbing them, and I decided they would be the stairs of Cirith Ungol if they weren't wooden and surrounded by living things.

There is a park near me which is filled with tall trees with lots of vines. It reminds me of Mirkwood. I like to take the back paths when the moon is full and there is a chill in the air.

Near Great Fals on the Potomac the is an Island with very vertical rock faces and difficult teerain that feels like Emyn Muil.

In Maine on Acadia Park (Mt. Desert Island) during the depression the WPA built many granite stairs that go up and down the some of the many small mountains (2600 feet max). It's not Cirith Ungol (I picture them being much higher) but it feels very ME.

I climbed a low peak in the misty mountains over christmas break. Some here may know it as Mt. Constitution, Orcas Island, Washington. A cloud rolled in beneath us while we were rambling around in the watchtower at the top. To be honest, I thought it was a little damp for an ent's taste, but Mr. Tumnus would not have been entirely out of place, and certainly one Mr. Bilbo "Burgler" Baggins was expected, along with his company of dwarves, but unfortunately they were detained by some rather argumentative trolls.

Hmmm...I wish I could just take a year off of everything and go travel to all these places! Sigh. Sounds fun. In the meantime, I will simply look for tiny stans of trees among the city...Heh. You know, Eruviel, the Ravenna ravine is pretty good too, though I don't quite know what for...
Oh..and Happy Birthday, Cirdan! *starts singing--happy birthday to you...*

Thanks Tano! If you ever go to Yosemite there is a park to the south called King's Canyon. I seems like a great place for Gondolin. Is a valley surrounded on all sides by vey tall moutains. The road in is lined with redwoods; a tree lover's paradise. Definitely take some time to travel while you're young.

We should have a tour of the places in the U.S. that look like ME. Or places anywhere, but since I live here . . .
