Yes and you make a good point.

I am glad I found the article, so people may read the source and decide for themselves how much credence they wish to attribute to the survey.

Lizra also makes a good point that people may sometimes act "dumber" than they truly are.

I do know some people that are geographically chalenged. (can not read a map for navigation purposes)

I'm just resurrecting this old thread to point out that the Olimpic Flag agrees with us: there are five continents

BTW, where's A-E now?

It doesn't agree with you - they just didn't want six rings - because it would the rings would look lopsided - so they just combined South and North America. The two together are called THE AmericaS.

Bah, not this again.

There are many differing arguements on what constitutes a continent, and we can all buy into the one we like, which is great. It's all arbitrary anyways, huh?

*is now a big proponent of the five-continent argument

JD's right. And there's also the big tradition thing... I believe the Olypmic flag goes a long way back anyway.

Plus it was made by a Frenchman, of course it didn't recognise the USA...

In geography i was told that there are

Australasia
asia
europe
north america
south america
antarctica
africa

Is that wrong? mind you, that was five years ago at least.

I really didn''t know that the olympic symbol had anything to do with continent number. you learn something new everyday. But the USA and North America are completely different. it's like saying that canada is part of the US, isn't it? i'm just asking, cos i don't know.

When I had U.S. geography in elementary school we had to learn all the states/location and their capital city. I def. still know the states, and almost all of the capitals (meaning one or two may slip my mind). Last year in Western Civ we had to do the same for Europe. I probably know about 1/2 or a little more capitals, and most country locations (tho the Balkan countries and the Baltic countries do confuse me).
